Lower Blood Pressure through Home Remedies

A popular alternative to taking prescribed drugs to lower blood pressure are Home remedies; this is due to many factors. Ingredients for home remedies to lower blood pressure can be found in the local supermarket or even tucked away in the cupboard at home. You only need to know what youre looking for.

One of the most common home remedies for lowering blood pressure is garlic; it has amazing properties. A huge plus in taking garlic- it lowers not only blood pressure but helps reduce levels of clotting. Some researchers also think garlic can reduce triglyceride levels in addition to lowering blood pressure.

If you eat a high fat diet, eating garlic will not be effective in reducing blood pressure. This is because the high fat content in the diet overpowers the properties of the garlic. Drinking alcohol to excess will also have a negative affect on garlics healing properties.

Potassium and magnesium are vital to the control of elevated blood pressure so home remedies include adding bananas, kidney beans, molasses and soy to the diet. Fruits such as watermelon and grapes may be considered excellent resources of potassium, magnesium and calcium.

Please remember to always consult your doctor before starting any alternative remedies for high blood pressure, and never ever under any circumstances cease taking your prescribed blood pressure medication without first asking your doctors advice. If you suddenly stop taking your medication, it may have serious adverse effects on your health, resulting in you becoming very ill and even being hospitalized.

How to select the right youth baseball glove for your child

Youth baseball leagues are up and running across North America, and around the globe. The game is very popular in Japan, Taiwan, Mexico, the Caribbean, and in South America. Millions of kids look forward to playing on their local teams. Its a chance to meet new friends, travel to other parks or cities, and to be on a ball team. Its the camaraderie that makes playing baseball a fun event.

The practicing however is often a different matter, especially catching baseballs. In what is a pretty easygoing sport, kids have to catch baseballs moving along a good clip. Theyll have to learn catching skills, such as fielding balls that will bounce along with ground unpredictably or line drives that move toward them at a high speed. They may be kids, but some can hit the ball very well. For the kid that doesnt know how to catch properly or doesnt have a very good glove, there are few more angst-ridden activities than catching baseballs.

Leather baseball gloves have been around a long time. If youve been to the Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame, you may have seen some unusual looking antique gloves and wondered how they could have caught a baseball with them. For those of us old timers who have been around long enough to actually use some of those antique gloves, we can tell you that it was not easy. They were stiff, heavy, clumsy, and tough to manipulate with your hand when they were new, and it wasnt long before they wore out to a limp clump of hide that often let the ball fly right through it. Catching was an art, and stinging fingers and bruised shins were all part of the experience of playing youth baseball.

Youth Baseball Gloves

With those stiff or floppy youth baseball gloves, youd wonder why kids didnt give up on the game. Well, truth is, many youths wouldnt play baseball or gave up for that very reason. They didnt want to have any part of trying to catch a hot, bobbling grounder on uneven ground. Kids are the same way today. If its too unpleasant to use the equipment and play the game the way it is meant to be played, then they might think, why bother?

New Baseball Gloves and New Materials

Glove manufacturers today have designed them so theyre ready to play with. Instead of stiff, thick cowhide leather composing the whole glove, modern kids ball gloves are made of numerous materials including pigskin. Cowhide may be used where it is needed most, but these gloves are designed for comfort and performance. They almost feel like they can catch the ball themselves.

The design of youth baseball gloves is done with the childs hand eye coordination and physical skills in mind. The physical skill of an adult means adult gloves can be made differently depending on the nature of the position they play, and with more webbing to allow them to snare baseballs a little more easily. A childs finger dexterity and strength arent fully developed, so theyre not going to be able to use a glove with the skill of an older youth or adult ball player. There are gloves for young tots, something that couldnt be done decades ago.

Additional helpful features of todays youth baseball gloves, such as anti-microbial treatments, which keep bacteria at bay. Its hot in the summer and your childs hand will sweat inside the glove.

Franklin Sports Gloves

With the physiology and coordination of youth ball players in mind, Franklin Sports has designed a wide range of quality youth baseball gloves. Their leather ball gloves range in size and styles but all are designed for comfort in how they fit the childs hand and how the leather is stitched. The result is an outstanding ball glove that will feel like a natural extension of the childs arm. On models for older youths, the gloves are all leather with deep pockets and lengths up to 12.5 inches. Thats plenty of glove for making tough catches.

With a Franklin baseball glove, your child wont have the same frustration or soreness from learning new baseball skills. Perhaps theyll avoid the stinging fingers, summer sweat that sees smelly bacteria forming inside the glove, and bruised shins that take some of the fun out of playing. A good glove wont rid your child of those embarrassing moments when they miss a catch, but it will increase their comfort level. Theyll be able to relax and theyll be more confident that they can learn their fielding skills.

Metabolism: Processing the Fuel for the Body

It is a common belief that slim people generally have higher metabolism rate that those of overweight and obese people. That isnt necessarily true. Weight is not directly connected to metabolism. Ones weight is dependent on the balance of the total calorie consumption as opposed to the total number of calories expended. Once a person eats more calories that his body needs, expect a weight gain to follow. Just the same, taking in less that what the body requires and a weight loss will follow.

How Does Cosmetic Dentistry Work?

There are many people who are unhappy with their appearance in the world today. Some peoples teeth may have been unattractive for their entire lives, whereas others teeth may have aged and slowly become unattractive. For these reasons, many people decide to look into cosmetic dentistry. Cosmetic dentistry could be considered a dental facelift, changing someones appearance so that they look better and feel better about themselves. There are many techniques in cosmetic dentistry, from braces to porcelain veneers. More often than not, dentists use a combination of these techniques in order to achieve the best results.

The first method widely used in cosmetic dentistry is Porcelain Laminate Veneers (also known as veneers). These veneers are specially made porcelain wafers that can be places over teeth in order to enhance their appearance. Veneers can correct unappealing smiles, reverse the effects of aging, and whiten teeth. Many popular movie stars use veneers today in order to have that perfect smile. There are temporary and permanent veneers. People usually ware the temporary veneers while the permanent ones are being made. In terms of cost, veneers usually cost several thousand dollars, depending on the amount of teeth needing modification.

Teeth whitening is another very popular way to change the appearance of teeth. There are two types of whitening, in-office or at-home whitening. In-office whitening uses a high intensity light along with 35% hydrogen peroxide. The patients gums are protected, and the whitening process takes about an hour. The results are usually teeth that are four to six shades lighter than before. The at-home systems generally use between 10 and 20% carbamine peroxide. Impressions of the persons mouth are made in order to make trays. The trays are then fitted and the patient is told to place a little bit of the carbamine peroxide gel in the tray and ware it while sleeping. The time of wearing this varies greatly from one week to six. Some people use a combination of in-office and at-home systems. This usually has a result of 12 to 15 shades of whitening.

There are three popular procedures to fix only a few unappealing teeth. The procedures for fixing select teeth are: tooth shaping, bonded-bridge, and resin or tooth colored fillings. Tooth shaping is when a doctor removes a very small amount of enamel from a tooth in order to shape it and make it more appealing. This is usually used for shortening long teeth, rounding off pointed teeth, or to simply make a smile follow the contour of the lower lip (which is more appealing). This procedure costs only $25 to $75 per tooth. The bonded-bridge procedure is used to replace missing teeth. The procedure usually involves taking out a small amount from teeth on either side of the missing tooth and then taking an impression or mold. From this, a bonded-bridge that can attach to the backs of the teeth on either side is made. There are resin-bonded bridges that do not fall out as easily, and there are metal bonded-bridges that are more expensive. Finally, people can get resin or tooth colored fillings. Resin is used to fill small cavities or a chipped front tooth. Resin instead of porcelain veneers saves money as well as time, but resin needs to be replaced every so often.

The final two things people can do in cosmetic dentistry are gum-lifts and braces. Gum-lifts remove gums in order to make teeth appear longer and eliminate a gummy smile. Uneven gum lines can make the teeth seem as though they are of different lengths that makes for an unattractive smile. The procedure is relatively quick and painless. Braces are the last, and most common, way to get cosmetic dentistry. Braces are placed on the teeth and can straighten crooked teeth, help fix over-bites, and generally create a more appealing smile. Braces are very time consuming, and costly, but are a great option for children. Some adults do get braces, but most opt for faster, cheaper methods. Braces run from $3,500 to $4,500, and require multiple visits to the orthodontist.

Cosmetic dentistry has been described as not a science but rather an art. Cosmetic dentists use many different procedures in order to improve their patients smiles and overall confidence. Some cosmetic dentistry procedures can be very costly, but yield great results. So, if someone has been unhappy with their smile for years, and does not know what to do, cosmetic dentistry may be the perfect option.

IQ Level – Who Cares?

What is your IQ level? What is “intelligence quotient anyhow? The American Heritage Dictionary defines it as “The ratio of tested mental age to chronological age, usually expressed as a quotient multiplied by 100.” More or less, it’s a test of intelligence, with 100 as the average score. IQ tests have some problems however.

One IQ test asks which of four fruits is different. It’s the one with more than one seed, but what if you weren’t familiar with these fruits? The test is culturally biased, because it assumes certain knowledge, yet is supposed to test for intelligence, not knowledge.

Look at these letters: “ANLDEGN.” Rearrange them to spell the name of a(n): Ocean, Country, State, City or Animal. Tests are timed, so I start with oceans, since there are few oceans, and thus I can eliminate these quickly. The problem is that this is a test taking technique I use, and an intelligence test shouldn’t be testing test-taking ability. I’ll score higher than a person of equal intelligence who hasn’t learned simple techniques for scoring higher on multiple-choice tests, right?

Real Life Results vs IQ Levels

An imperfect test is better than no test, and it is entertaining. I recently took an IQ test, and although I don’t think my IQ is really the 138 it showed, it was fun. Of course you’ll score higher on a good day than a bad day. Try these tips to make it a good IQ test day:

1. Breath deep through your nose.

2. Sit up straight and close your mouth.

3. Drink a cup of coffee, tea or other caffeinated beverage.

4. Exercise enough to get your blood pumping faster.

5. Eat or drink Ginkgo Biloba to increase blood flow to your brain.

By the way, what was Henry Fords IQ? Who cares! He was one of the most innovative people of the last century, and he did what he did by surrounding himself with intelligent people. This practice alone must be worth more than 20 IQ points. Do you see the point?

You want real life results, right? If you want to be more creative, learn creative problem solving techniques. To concentrate better, learn techniques for that. Learn speed-reading and you’ll have double the knowledge in the same time. Once you paint your first Mona Lisa, build your first skyscraper or make your first million, who will care about your IQ level?

Beach shorts explained

Beach shorts are a special kind of shorts that are designed to get wet. They are not swimming shorts, but they are not normal shorts either they are a special kind of shorts designed to look like normal shorts, but at the same time designed to get wet with seawater and dry quickly with no ill effects.

They are generally made of materials like lycra, flannel or nylon, which are chosen to be quick-drying but not too warm. Theyre a good alternative to trunks, and are often considered both more fashionable, especially among young men, as well as more modest in that they dont reveal so much. However, some shorts still come with a trunks-like structure on the inside, to offer the support of trunks while still giving the look of shorts.

Although most people only wear beach shorts when theyre going to the beach, it is common for people who live in beach towns to wear beach clothes all the time, in case they happen to feel like going to the beach one day. This is quite easy to spot when you walk around one of these towns, and can make you wonder whether everyone is on their way to the beach!

Beach shorts arent just for standing around in the sea, though theyre also just fine for wearing on the beach itself, and surfers often use them as well. Surfers have to make sure to use good shorts, however, as cheap ones are prone to coming off when you hit the water hard.

One word, though: Hawaii-style beach shorts arent fashionable, and hopefully never will be again, so just dont. Stay away from the big, unsightly patterns in your beach shorts, and go for plain colours instead. Trust me, you wont regret it. Its also worth mentioning that you should probably go for dark colours rather than light ones, as light colours can become see through when they get very wet, and chlorine from swimming pools you use them in can make colours fade.

All About The Mattress!

Those of us who think that mattresses are just something to plunk ourselves on and while away the night, couldnt be more wrong. We simply might have to rethink again. The fact is that we spend one-fourth of our lives in bed and what should demand our maximum attention often goes unnoticed- for example the mattress that we sleep on.

We make the mistake of undermining the importance of mattresses by considering them to be just another part of our furniture. But this is not so. A bad mattress can be worse than the cavity in your tooth. It can cause spinal problems, muscles aches and sleep problems. The net result would be a stressed head over an equally unhealthy body.

So be very careful about choosing the mattress where you will be spending a good proportion of your life.

There are different types of mattresses available in the market today and what we decide to buy depends solely on our needs and specifications. For some foam mattresses might be the ideal choice while you may find others swearing by a spring mattress. Waterbeds and airbeds are other popular form of mattresses with their own set of merits and demerits to follow. The reason why people dont prefer air- beds is because they are designed for temporary sleeping rather than daily usage. Its good to have an air mattress around when you are out camping or if you have guests over at your place. As for the water beds, they arent considered to be very practical either because of the weight that they carry. Many homes are not designed to take the weight of a waterbed in one place.

A very popular myth running amongst most people is that hard mattresses are better in comparison to the softer ones. But this is not necessarily true. What is more important is the consistency of the surface of the mattress. The mattress should not cause pressure points in your body and leave you feeling sore. It should feel comfortable and should be in alignment with your spine so as to avoid any unwanted pressure on your other muscles and body parts.

What Is The Right Time To Change Your Mattress?

It is very essential for the user to know when his mattress needs to be replaced. Sometimes the regular use of the mattress might leave behind the impression of your body on it. In such cases you should try rotating or turning your mattress every three months at the least. Moreover the most important signal that your mattress might give you will be its inability to help you in a good nights sleep. Thats right- when you start feeling uncomfortable in your old mattress or if you get up every morning with a sore back you can be sure that your mattress is desperately crying out for its retirement.

If you are prepared to buy a new replacement for your mattress be sure to check it out for yourself. Lie down on it and see if you are comfortable enough. If it meets both your price as well as comfort level then you can be sure that you have made the right choice!

Comic Books: Our Own Worst Enemy?

Like most comic publishers I spend quite a bit of time thinking about the state of the industry and how to make it better well, truthfully, how to make my little corner of it better. After spending a lot of time thinking it over and discussing what everyone perceives to be the main elements leading to the downfall of comics (the distributor monopoly, for example), I realized what the biggest problem and killer really is: the industry.

I believe most of the problems that we encounter in the industry come from the industry itself. First off, comic companies tend to publish only for those who are already in the industry. Comic publishers usually target their marketing towards those who are already here and creators tend to create product only for those who are already well-versed in industry. Very rarely does the thought of bringing new readers in really ever pop up, which is insane. That would be like Hollywood only creating films for those who work in film and television. As wacky as it sounds, this seems to be the mentality of the industry at large.

Magazines like Cosmopolitan are fashion magazines, but their audience is the average woman (or girl) interested in fashion and not members of the industry itself. Their advertising stretches beyond fashion industry trade publications and into the mainstream itself, where its buyers reside. Why short sell your books only to the 50,000 or so members of the active comic community and not go for millions of people out there who enjoy action movies?

Comic publishers arent the only ones to blame, either. Creators themselves are as big a deterrent to new readership as anything else. If you want to know why, take a look at a modern comic versus one from as late as even the mid eighties and youll see one very big difference. No, Im not talking about paper or printing processes. The art itself is the main problem with comics. Solid, clear storytelling has become a thing of the past. A new buyer will find most modern comics unreadable because the solid storytelling of days past (along with gutters remember, full page bleeds on every page get confusing) is gone.

Do you know why a lot of new readers are picking up Manga titles? Its because they are easier to read than US ones. Even with the flipped format, most Manga has straight forward enough storytelling that even the most uninitiated reader can follow what is going on and which panel comes next. This cant be said about most US titles (indy or mainstream). The fact that the current trend in the US is for over rendered, poorly thought out computer coloring, doesnt help readability at all.

Comics and comic art have become so inbred the only ones who can stomach them are their sister-mothers. But it doesnt have to be that way.

The general public will read comics if you can get yourself out of the industry mindset and start creating comics for readers instead of for an industry more interested in John Byrnes latest social blunder than in buying your books.

Some places to consider for your books (depending on its target audience) are non-chain book stores, new age shops, record stores (Tower is starting to have a great selection of indy and small press zines), libraries, corner markets, magazines with a similar areas of interest, schools, local area mailer compilations (such as the little coupon books you get in the mail), area events (concerts are a great spot), swap meets, arcades or game stores. There is an endless list of places that might be willing to carry your work if you let them know its out there. You might have to spend some money to advertise. Get used to it. The old adage, you have to spend money to make money, is true for any business.

Here are some tips for making your books more accessible to general audiences:

1) Market your books outside of comic-specific areas. Figure out who might be interested in your book and pursue those outlets. There are tons of places out in the world that would be willing to sell your comicbut they have to know it exists first. Ive had success at art festivals, flea markets, record stores, sci fi magazines and more. Get as creative with your marketing and sales as you do with actually producing your book. Its worth the extra effort.

2) Get rid of full page bleeds on every page. Dont be afraid of negative space around your pages. It will actually open up your pages and keep them from looking cramped.

3) Dont forget the gutters! Overlap panels are interesting from time to time, but gutters help to keep the art readable and from blending together. Theyre also great for pacing in your storytelling.

4) If youre going to color your books, dont go for the over-rendered look that most comics use. Its muddy and unclear. Look at animation or places like Disney Adventures for reference on coloring. Most cartoony books are well colored because they want to make sure the work is readily accessible to readers of all ages. Not every panel needs to be a fully digitally painted work of “art.”

5) Think of storytelling. The most important thing in a comic is that you do not lose your audience. If at any point your readers get confused as to where to read next, then youve failed at your job as a storyteller. And, remember, style is no excuse for poor storytelling (or poor artwork in general, but thats a rant for another time)

6) Dont have large blocks of text or dialogue in each panel. Theres an old unwritten rule in mainstream comics (and one that has been largely forgotten or ignored): never have more than 26 words in any balloon or caption box. Anything more than that and the words will run together, potentially causing readers to skip over sections of what is on the page.

7) This one is going to cause any comic collector to cringe: get rid of issue numbers. Or, if you just have to have them, place them in the indicia only. Issue numbers are one of the big obstacles for new readers, especially in periodical product like comic books. A reader needs to be able to come in on any issue and not have to worry about having to read 10 back issues to know whats going on. Sure you can let them know there are other stories they can read (and, which will be available in trade paperback), but dont make those stories required reading. Follow Cosmos lead (or Playboys) and just have the month and year on each cover. Comics should be entertainment first and foremost. Get out of the collectible mindset.
8) Forget the mantra, comics arent just for kids anymore. Its old, played out and is part of the death sentence of the industry. Creators have spent so much time trying to prove that comics can be for adults that theyve forgotten to build the next generation of fans by only making comics for older fans who are already in comics. Without young readers there is no future in the industry. As a second part of this thought, just because your comic has adult language, nudity and graphic violence doesnt automatically make the book for adults. Vertigo and Ultimate writers take note.

9) Be prepared to get your hands dirty and do some work. Publishing is a business and, at first, you may find yourself putting in as much time marketing as you do creating. Thats not a bad thing.

My heresy will end with this statement: the only way to save comics may be to let the comic industry, as it exists right now, shrivel up and die. Its on the road as it is, with everyone racing to tear whatever pieces they can get from its still (barely) living corpse. The industry isnt the heart of comics and didnt make them, so dare to be different. Put down the latest issue of the comic industry death watch, Wizard. Ignore the party line that an indy book will sell less than 250 copies there is a world outside of the Geppi chokehold.

A bit of inspiration for you: Nifty’s main title, the Cadre, sells over 5000 copies per issue and 90% of that is outside of the comic industry. Not bad for a black and white, mainstream style super hero comic.

The world is a big, beautiful place full of potential new readers. You just have to venture out and find them.

Taking Care Of Inner Health 2.

Taking Care of Your Inner Health 2.

The first of these two Inner Health articles dealt with diet, healthy eating and exercise habits. This article deals with hygiene and avoiding the dreaded tummy bugs.

Poor hygiene can lead to food poisoning and gastro-enteritis. The biggest cause of food poisoning is transmitted from the hands of people who do not thoroughly wash them after visiting the toilet. A few weeks ago, when I first started planning these articles I decided to do a private poll on how many men fail to wash their hands after visiting the toilet. The result was a real scary 60%. Obviously this figure cannot be claimed as totally accurate because I did not hang around public toilets for long periods; instead I just took my time when visiting a public toilet, washing and drying my hands thoroughly. During this period I found that around 40% walked out without washing and a further 20% just flicked their hands under running water. Parents please note that the time to educate your children about washing their hands starts as soon as the start going to the toilet alone. Habits that start in early childhood usually remain with us.

Food Care:

Storing food is important, more so in hot weather when bacteria flourish on the surface of chilled or frozen food which start to warm up in the hot boot of a car as you drive home from the supermarket. The same applies to storing food in an inefficient or overloaded refrigerator. Here are some tips:

- Meat that is not frozen should be covered and refrigerated at a minimum temperature of 37 degrees Fahrenheit (4 degrees C). It must be covered fully and aluminum foil is better than plastic wrap to ensure that light doesnt penetrate.

- We all re-heat food at times and most are guilty of just warming rather than heating. Bacteria thrive on cooked meat surfaces and warming doesnt destroy bacteria. If you are re-heating please re-heat thoroughly to ensure that bacteria does not survive.

Allergy Problems:

Certain people have allergies to various things such as: dairy products, nuts, shellfish etc. and eating these foods may result in diarrhea, palpitations or a skin rash. Others simply have food intolerance and find that their insides react to particular substances. If this problem is persistent it may be due to an underlying disease and you should visit your doctor. When the problem is identified it will be possible to avoid the offending foods and limit the recurrence.

When you are fully sure that your actions and habits are compatible to good food hygiene you are able to identify problems in those around you early and obtain early medical action to cure them. If your hygiene isnt up to standard you can never be sure when a health problem exists. – Its worth the effort to take care of your inner health for your own peace of mind.

The Controversy Over Roadside Field Sobriety Tests

Copyright 2006 Lance Knowlton

Roadside field sobriety tests (FSTs), developed at the behest of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), are commonly employed by police officers during DUI stops to determine whether a driver is under the influence of alcohol.

FSTs generally consist of a battery of three to five exercises, such as walking and turning in a different direction, standing on one leg, nystagmus (using the eyes to track an object), touching the finger to the nose and reciting the alphabet.

The officer may subjectively decide whether the individual failed the test, or he may decide after applying recently-promulgated federal scoring standards. The NHTSA thinks these tests are a reliable way to gauge sobriety; however, there is mounting evidence that they are anything but.

Many FSTs are based on the concept of divided attention, which occurs when an individual must concentrate on more than one thing at the same time. A driver must divide her attention among various physical and mental activities to safely operate a vehicle, and her ability to do so is significantly reduced by the consumption of alcohol.

Ideally, FSTs evaluate the same mental and physical capabilities that a person needs to drive: information processing; short-term memory; judgment and decision making; steadiness, sure reactions; clear vision; small muscle control; and coordination of the limbs.

The most recently developed of the FSTs is the horizontal gaze nystagmus (HGN) test. HGN does not test a drivers ability to divide his attention, but it is thought to be an even more accurate means to detect whether a person has consumed alcohol because it measures involuntary eye movement.

Nystagmus is an involuntary oscillation of the eye, and it occurs naturally in human eyes when they focus too far off center (straight ahead). If a sober person tracks an object from side to side, the eyes will follow it smoothly up to a certain point, when they will begin to oscillate. If an intoxicated person tracks an object from side to side, alcohol will make nystagmus more pronounced, meaning the eyes will oscillate sooner.

However, alcohol is not the only cause of pronounced nystagmus. Nystagmus can be caused by inner ear problems, flu, strep throat, measles, syphilis, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, hypertension, glaucoma and epilepsy.

Temporary conditions such as motion sickness, sun stroke, eye strain or fatigue, and changes in atmospheric pressure may also result in nystagmus. Further, the consumption of common substances such as caffeine, nicotine, or aspirin can also lead to nystagmus. An individuals circadian rhythms or biorhythms also affect nystagmus readings.

The integrity of the original research affirming the validity of the HGN test has been called into question, and in 2001 additional research indicated that the test is improperly administered by most police officers. HGN, however, is not the only FST to be called into question. The entire battery of tests appears to offer dubious evidence of intoxication.

The most obvious problem is that the conditions under which FSTs are given almost guarantee failure: usually late at night; along a graveled or sloped roadside; with unsteady lighting from passing cars headlights, the officers flashlight and patrol cars strobe and headlights; and sometimes gusts of wind from intemperate weather or passing cars. The test is given to a person who is usually nervous and possibly frightened.

In 1991, Clemson University conducted a study on the accuracy of FSTs. Police officers were shown videotapes of individuals performing six common FSTs and asked to determine whether they were too intoxicated to drive. The officers concluded that almost half of the people were too drunk to drive; however, unknown to the officers, none of them had consumed any alcohol.

Given the questionable reliability of FSTs, it is no wonder they are surrounded by controversy and DUI defense attorneys often advise people not to submit to them.

Cheap Generic Drugs Or Expensive Branded Ones?

When someone is sick, the basic response in today’s world is to medicate. However, in today’s world, whenever a consumer is out to get something (even something that’s badly needed), the first inclination is to go with what’s the most economical option. A person’s health can therefore be a touchy subject in this regard, with both the well-being and the financial situation of the patient being thrown into the pot for consideration. Granted, there are cheap generic drugs available on the market that are lower in cost than their branded, trademarked counterparts. There is, however, the lingering question of whether or not price dictates quality. As with most other things, there are both positive and negative points to both sides, with the decision usually falling squarely on the shoulders of the person deciding.

Beneath the Armor of The Iron Man

Heroes are often defined and made what they are by two things: the villains they face and the burdens they carry. Superman carries the burden of fear and anxiety, living a life afraid of breaking something, of killing someone should be be careless with his power. In some ways, Spider-man fought off depression after the death of his Uncle Ben by turning to crime-fighting. Batman turned his fear and anxiety into a weapon in his personal war, fueling his lone crusade against crime. However, in very few heroes is the relationship between burden and heroism as blatant and as prominent as in Tony Stark, the Iron Man.

An auction means a public sale of properties or objects that are sold to the highest bidder. There are a whole lot of things that can be put to auction. The hammer price is the final bid price, which does not include a buyers premium. The buyers premium is the money that is paid separately by the buyer to the auction house. 3 Little Known Tips Of Basketball Hoop Shopping

I’ve got a confession to make. I play basketball. I play it very poorly and can’t make very many of the shots that I shoot at the basketball hoop. I have a feeling that I am not alone in the world at being a rather poor basketball player. However, one thing that I’m not bad at is comparison shopping. I’ve mastered the ancient art of comparing prices between merchants and can usually ferret out a fairly good deal with a little bit of leg work. Basketball hoops are no different than other items when it comes to shopping for them. There are some tips you should know before embarking on your journey to shop for a basketball hoop.

1)New or Used. You really might consider buying a used basketball hoop if you are interested in value. However, make sure you are buying one that hasn’t been banged up too bad. Years of basketball practice can only make your rim bent and dirty. Ebay can be a great place to buy used equipment and basketball hoops are regularly for sale on Ebay.

2)Do your homework by comparing different merchant offers on different search engines and different websites. Just because something is advertised for sale on Google doesn’t mean its also advertised for sale on Yahoo. Some merchants advertise their good strictly through the Amazon partners program and don’t do any other advertising anywhere else. Price vary drastically and the only way you will know that you are getting a good deal is to examine what the different people are selling the same goods for on different websites. Basketball hoops are no exception.

3)Learn about the different types and styles of basketball hoops. Without the knowledge of what you are buying, points #1 and #2 are nearly worthless. Buy your hoop the right way and get a great deal on one by being an informed consumer. Learn how to buy a basketball hoop and you can guarantee that you got a better deal than everyone else.

Scuba Dive the Florida Keys

One of the best areas to scuba dive within North America is in the Florida Keys, a long string of islands just south of Miami. For any scuba diver traveling to southern Florida, even a quick day trip to the Florida Keys is worthwhile. Theres great scuba diving all along the Keys from the first community of Key Largo, through to the middle at Marathon and all the way to the end where Key West is located. One can get to Key Largo in about 45 minutes from Miami and the protected Pennekamp marine park in the surrounding waters offers much more marine life to see than the waters off Miami or Fort Lauderdale. Key Largo in particular is a scuba divers town with numerous dive operators and some retailers who carry diving equipment and gear.

One of the great things about scuba diving in the Florida Keys is the variety of dive sites for every level of diver. Many of the nicest coral reefs loaded with fish are located in beginner level dive sites like Molasses Reef and French Reef. With depths of 30 to 50 feet, these are perfect dive sites for newly certified scuba divers as well as those who wish to do night dives. Theres even some good wreck diving in shallow dive sites like the Benwood wreck where the resident marine life will not disappoint any diver. For more advanced divers, there are some spectacular deep dives featuring large wrecks like the Duane, a former coast guard ship sitting upright. The most recent ship that was sunk for scuba diving is the Spiegel Grove which again is for advanced divers.

Many scuba divers from North America and other parts of the world come to the Florida Keys for their open water certification dives as well as more advanced training. Accommodations are plentiful right in the communities along the Keys and range from simple motels all the way up to high end resorts. Many have special packages just for scuba divers where theres an arrangement with one of the local dive operators. Theres also relatively inexpensive accommodations in Florida City which is the closest community back in the Florida mainland about 20 minutes from Key Largo. After the day of diving, there are lots of restaurants serving fresh seafood for even the hungriest of divers.

Another attractive feature of Florida Keys diving is the cost. Especially for the quality of the dive sights, the cost of diving here is lower than in many of the Caribbean destinations like the Bahamas and Cayman Islands. For those who are not ready to try scuba diving, there are some decent sites to snorkel in the Keys including one of the best in the U.S. at Looe Key. The marine life that can be seen here has convinced quite a few snorkellers to finally pursue scuba diving certifications. The Florida Keys has enough other activities to do besides scuba diving to keep non-divers busy. Theres interesting shopping, water sports, beaches (near the western part) and even two places to interact with dolphins. Of course, theres also the funky scene at Key West.

The one aspect about scuba diving in the Florida Keys that some divers may not like is that the dives are not guided by divemasters from the various scuba operators. Divers who are used to following a local divemaster like the diving in destinations like Cozumel, will just have to team up in buddy groups here in the Keys. Despite this drawback, the Florida Keys still offers great tropical scuba diving without leaving the USA.

There are big names and different models of male vibrators with each having their own pros and cons. To give you an idea of what most males are currently buying when in come to mens sex toys, the four best products have been listed below, taking into account the different price ranges. Research has been carried out on a wide range of toys, by gathering information from all major shops, businesses and warehouses who sell adult products.

The four best male sex toys are as follows:

1)In the top spot we have the Jenna Haze vibrator. Made by CyberSkin, it is an actual masturbator cast from the pornography sensation Jenna Haze’s own private parts. It is made out of an ultra soft texture, giving it the real look and feel. The masturbator also has a five speed vibrating control to give it the pulsating feeling.

2)Next in line is the CyberSkin Vibrator. A big seller amongst men simply because it feels life-like. It is supplied with a removable vibrator bullet that fits into the canal for extra pleasure. It also comes with a personal lubricant to further enhance the sexual feeling.

3)The LoveClone Thrust Box is a good value for money product. Compared to the previous two, it is by far the most real in terms of looks. Again, it has the removable vibrator bullet, only this time it has multi vibrating speeds to help improve sexual simulation.

4)Following right behind is the LoveClone 2 Patricia Parris vibrator. This is one of the cheaper male vibrators on the market, however it still works well as a sexual simulation device. It is known to have a magic flesh which gives it all the qualities of feel and touch. A vibrating bullet is also supplied to further give a real sexual feeling.

Based on the four products listed above, it can still be quiet difficult on deciding which one is best. Head Back to School Safely With These Auto Tips

Across America, students are jumping in their cars and driving back to class. What better way to send your students back to school than to arm them with proper car care knowledge and a well-maintained vehicle?

The following tips will help educate drivers about car care and safety basics – an important part of every young driver’s education.

* Check the fluids. Ensure that the vehicle’s main fluids are routinely checked and filled to recommended levels. The main fluids are: antifreeze/coolant, brake fluid, window washer fluid, engine oil, automatic transmission fluid, power steering fluid and gas.

* Pay attention to the tires. Stopping on wet roads can take up to four times longer than on dry surfaces. Plus, if the tire tread is worn, the tires may hydroplane, or skim over the road with little or no traction. Help avoid this situation by checking tires regularly.

Properly inflate all four tires, plus your spare, to the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended levels. Tires can lose up to 1 pound of air pressure per square inch per month. Use an accurate tire gauge to check tire air pressure monthly and only do it when the car is cool – meaning when it has been driven less than 1 mile or has not moved in at least three hours.

To check the tires’ tread, perform this simple test in several areas of the tire: Place a U.S. penny into a tread groove with Lincoln’s head facing down. If you can see the top of Lincoln’s head, the tire should be replaced.

* Consider the owner’s manual the “textbook” for learning about the vehicle. Follow the vehicle manufacturer’s maintenance schedule in the owner’s manual or pick up a free schedule at your local Firestone Complete Auto Care center.

* Be ready for emergencies. Keep an emergency kit in your car for any unexpected breakdowns or accidents.

New Product Proven to Keep Foods Fresher Longer

What causes food to go bad? All fruits, vegetables and cheese produce a natural gas called ethylene, which causes ripening.

If you keep your produce wrapped or in a sealed container, you are actually accelerating the ripening process because the ethylene gas gets trapped inside. In addition, certain foods such as onions and garlic produce odors that transfer to other foods and dairy products, causing them to lose their freshness and flavor.

A new product called “Forever Fresh For The Fridge” has been proven to absorb ethylene gas, keeping produce fresh at least twice as long as normal and eliminating refrigerator odors. Two independent testing laboratories have tested Forever Fresh For The Fridge and verified its effectiveness.

“Since I started using Forever Fresh all my fruits and vegetables stay fresher longer, like strawberries, which used to last just a couple of days, now they last a couple of weeks,” said Nancy McKimson of Jacksonville, Fla.

Forever Fresh For The Fridge consists of two small pouches: One goes on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator and absorbs ethylene gas, slowing down the ripening process and keeping produce fresh at least twice as long as normal; the second pouch goes on the top shelf of the refrigerator and absorbs food odors. Food stays fresh for up to 30 days longer.

“I used to make salads and throw out the leftover in a couple of days if we hadn’t eaten them because they turned brown and shriveled up,” said Jane Burke of Morristown N.J. “Now I just put the leftover back in the refrigerator and it stays fresh for about a week.”

The company also makes all- natural order eliminators. Forever Fresh Odor Eliminator, Pet Odor Eliminator and Vehicle Odor Eliminator are each made of a blend of highly absorbent minerals.

Unlike chemicals, sprays and fragrances – which only cover up odors, last for a short time and can be harmful to people with allergies or asthma – Forever Fresh absorbs and eliminates odors.

In tests conducted by Rutgers University, the Forever Fresh products eliminated strong odors, such as cigarette smoke, ammonia, paint thinner, alcohol, garlic, cooking odors and more.
