Wrong Blames Can Kill A Life

To blame means to accuse someone of doing something wrong. It is very easy to put blame on a person when things begin going wrong and hammer that person left and right for being responsible for all the mess. Let us look at this further.

Sometimes, in our personal relationships, when we say that things are in mess, the truth may be different. The situation may not be messy, but our viewpoint may have become messy. What we call as going wrong may indeed be going wrong, but not in the way we look at it. Let me try to explain. Some of us lie. We get caught, or feel guilty. We blame someone for exposing our lie and making a mess of something good. Can a lie be good? We wished our lies to flourish and keep us safe from the bitterness of truth, but our comfort zone got broken because of the exposure. Is this bad? Or our viewpoint was wrong to begin with? When we think more, we find that truth may be very bitter and highly discomforting, but it is always better than a lie. Is it correct to blame a person who exposed our lies? But we do that. Blame the other person for making us face the music. What the other person did was correct but since it hurts us, we accuse.

Let me tell you something. What if someone accuses you of crimes never committed by you? What if the accuser himself/herself was the guilty party, but targeted you because you are a soft target? Between a couple this happens. If one of the partners is a compassionate person, the other partner can develop the habit of blaming him/her all the time of all the crimes realizing well, that no retaliation will occur.

Many of us act like brutes at times and then we suffer in the guilt for a lifetime. Some of us, who are evil people never, suffer any guilt. But some of us carry the guilt of having done something wrong forever in our life. This guilt will never go, because the deed was indeed done. Why not to desist doing wrong? Why to travel on a wrong path? Why to torture others with blames that they never deserve?

Active Learning Teaches Better

Do your recall in high school that one class that you absolutely hated? Of course there were other factors such as your level of interest and ability to focus that influenced your dislike of the class. Yes, you remember. This was the class that was so painfully boring that you thought you would die before the bell rang. You painfully tried to stay awake and you would develop a splitting headache or daydream about lunch while the teacher went on and on with the lecture.

Actually this scenario is pretty normal according to the experts. The experts have determined that people do not learn well in the “passive” way. Learning byjust listening to a lecture or watching someone else really does not work in the experts’ opinion.

However by doing the activity being lectured on, experts have found it to be a much better and more effective way of learning. It has proven to be much better than by watching, listening, or reading.

They are not advocating that we get rid of the classroom but that we supplement classroom learning with hands-on learning. Sometimes classroom learningis the only option available however we now realizethat learning takes place by reading about a subject, discussing a subject, hearing others speak on thesubject, watching audiovisual presentations, studying real life experiences or by doing the task itself.

Different presentation methods result in differentretention rates. For example, it has been discovered that as adults we expend 90 percent of our focus in the first five minutes of a class.

The next best method of learning, after the reading or hearing methods, is seeing something done. And finally the best method is by doing.

Some old school teachers treat students like they are totally empty and it is up to them to fill them up with some amount of the world’s knowledge. However we are seeing “interactive” learning becoming more and more popular today. This type of learning recognizes the experiences that each student brings to the table and utilizing these experiences to achieve effective learning.

We must take into account the differences in personalities as they have an affect on the individual’s preferred learning style. No two people learn alike. Next time you attend a meeting at work, try your best to be an active participant in it instead of just soaking everything in. You will find that you may learn something and you will come away with a sense of achievement.

You will discover that when you take an active part in learning that the time will pass by much quicker and you may just get your tasks done earlier.

Tips on Choosing the Right Sunglasses

Today, sunglasses have become everyone’s bestfriend. We never leave home without them. We carry them just about anywhere our lives take us. We never miss out on every opportunity to sneak at the shades counter whenever we get the chance. Sunglasses are fast becoming indispensable. They don’t just keep out those dangerous UV rays but they also exude a lot of attitude. They’re our eyes on the world, especially the fashion world. The world ultimately looks better and hipper through the lenses. But with all the variety of trends coming on the scene, how do we pick the right shades? How do we know they fit our facial profile?

Here’s a list of quick tips for sunglasses picks to match your face:

Square Face

You need slightly curved frames with the top high enough on the face to downplay the jaw line. Try aviator or wrap styles that suit your moods.

Round Face

Straight or angular frames in a deep color such as black or tortoise flatter the features of your face. For a good fit, try square-framed sunglasses with colored lenses.

Triangular Face

Defined by a broad forehead and a narrow mouth and chin, your face can be complemented with thin rims and vertical lines. Sleek oval frames with colored lenses also looks becoming on you.

Oblong Face

Similar to the square face with a little more length, the shape of your face looks best with a frame that covers as much of the center of the face as possible. Avoid large frames, heavy nose bridges, bold colors and square shapes. Experiment on updated classics for a trendy look.

Oval Face

With an oval shape, you can choose more shapes than any other. However, always remember to pick frames in proportion to the size of your face.

Aside from finding the perfect frame for your face, you should also consider frames that are proportional to your nose. Oversize frames balance out a large nose, while short noses should find sunglasses with a high bridge and a light color. Long noses are complemented by a double bridge and frames with high sidebars, drawing attention toward temples.

A good rule of thumb: Go for the frame that is opposite from the shape of your face. Think of the word “balance” and make sure to play around with many different shaped frames before you decide on your final choice.

Alcohol Detox Even If You Are Just A Social Drinker

Your body may be sending you signals that you need to take a break from alcohol. It may be time to detox alcohol from your body if you are feeling run down and tired, having digestive problems or experiencing achy muscles. If you drink and party regularly and have any of these symptoms, a simple alcohol detox may be for you.

With repeated or long term use, alcohol can cause liver and kidney problems, addiction and weight gain. While drinking and partying often seem harmless, ingesting alcohol on a regular basis can lead to the build up of toxins and sugars and eventually to alcoholism, or addiction to alcohol. Overuse and dependence on alcohol can have serious health risks as well.

However, most of us dont have a serious problem, and use alcohol socially. Even so, what can we do to limit the long term effects of alcohol usage?

In its simplest form, an alcohol detoxification program simply involves abstaining from alcohol for a period of time and allowing the body to eliminate all traces of the substance from the tissues and blood stream. Most healthcare professionals recommend at least one to four weeks of no alcohol. However, if you are a heavy drinker or suspect that you may be an alcoholic, cutting back or switching from hard liquor to wine for the first few days or a week may be easier for you to handle. Many people who have developed a dependence on alcohol will experience uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms like sweating, trembling and an almost overwhelming craving for alcohol.

Allowing your body a vacation from drinking may eventually lead to healthier habits, as you experience increased energy and vitality after your body begins to recover. During this period, take the chance to also do a colon, liver and kidney cleanse. Many report an increase in energy, sexual drive and function and a decrease of appetite after the detox period.

Allow your body to recover and rest. Take a break from alcohol for a month and you may be surprised at how great you feel!

Data Shredding Basics: Is Smaller Really Better?

Just as businesses need to destroy sensitive data, so too is there a need to shred electronic data from computer drives.

With increases in technology, it is simply amazing how much data can be stored in such a small physical space, and how often that data is recoverable if only erased using standard methods.
For computers, the equivalent of shredding is called wiping. If data is wiped from a computer it means that cannot be restored by any means.

Data wiping can be accomplished by using software which overwrites files or by using a ‘secure delete’ command instead of the ‘regular delete’ command to the operating system.

Why doesn’t just deleting a document or file doesnt work?

On many computers and the many standard operating systems, simply deleting a file and sending it to the trash bin will not delete the contents of the file it all! It may show that new space is available on the disk and it may show the file as removed from the operating system index, when in fact only the reference to the document was removed well actual contents remain somewhere on the hard disk.

In fact, the file has only become ‘dispensable’ space and may or may not be overwritten by other newer files. This allows for easy recovery of recently deleted files with various software tools or MS DOS commands.

Sometimes the files may be overwritten or partially overwritten and become unrecoverable, but there may still be traces, and with the right equipment and knowledge, much of this data can be mined from the hard disk.

The Unix operating system has a built in delete command which can be used, and there are various files deleting programs available for windows systems which overwrite the data repeatedly with random binary code making recovery extremely difficult. It intersperses random binary into the files and makes it so random that it is like it is deleted. This is sort of the computer equivalent of shredding paper materials.

One not of caution when using data shredders: It can be possible that after files have been deleted the files may move location. This may happen if the disk has been ‘defragmented’ and in some cases, may render shredding software ineffective because it doesnt know where to locate the specific data to be overwritten.

Thus, many people say that really the only absolute ways to permanently get rid of data on the hard drive is the burn it, pour acid on it, or a degausser!

Disc encryption is another method available to increase the security of your data. Theres a program called PGP which can encrypt data before it is stored on a hard disk. The PGP or Pretty Good Privacy is an encryption program for cryptographic privacy and authentication. Its pretty close to military grade encryption and can be used to protect data in long-term storage such as disk files. It requires a pass phrase to recover encrypted information

Other Data Storage Devices To Wipe:

Another device to look out for is flash memory devices, such as key ring size USB drives and memory cards. Data stored on these devices can often be recovered even after it has been erased. As of the time of this article there is no official method for destroying these devices. Overwriting may help, but pulverizing the storage is probably the safest option.

Due to the small size of these devices they are extremely easy to misplace drop or forget about They are also easy to steal or smuggle. In Iraq hundreds and hundreds of these devices were stolen which contained sensitive data about US troops! It is thought that these were smuggled out in the pockets of Iraqi locals working and sold on the black market.

Care must be taken with these devices.

While electronic data storage has become increasingly popular due to the minute space electronic files physically occupy compared to paper, people should realize that the extremely small size comes with a price: They are hard to keep track of! Sometimes, smaller is not better. Electronic data can be harder to permanently erase, easier to misplace, and easier to steal.

Search Engine Marketing & Keyword Lookup

Today were going to teach you how to take a general category and break it down into a profitable niche market and then were going to show you how to find your most targeted keywords for that niche market. First of all were not here to dog those who are currently showing you how to find a niche market, using Google or EBay are clever ways to find possible niches and its a lot better than guessing for assuming what people are looking for or want by guessing is just pure folly. However, through our research, Pam and I have found out that only half of the equation is being given and the other half of the equation that isnt being given is the use of a keyword lookup tool.

Timeshare Q&A: Understanding Types Of Timeshares Available

* What are the different types of timeshares available?

Timeshares are available in two basic types ‘fee simple’ and ‘certificate.’ Fee simple is similar to the ownership of one’s home, while certificate is similar to a lease like renting an apartment. Another term for a fee simple ownership is deeded timeshare property. Fee simple ownership is like owning your own home and you receive a deed to the timeshare. On the other hand, certificate ownership, also known as right-to-use, gives you the ability of owning a timeshare for a specific amount of time, much like renting an apartment, only much longer. There are also some different consumer choices.

Examples of these timeshares include:

Fixed week
Floating time
Points
Multi-location

The fixed week timeshare is the most familiar form and the oldest kind of timeshare. This works by purchasing one or more weeks to be used at the same time each year at your resort from which the weeks are numbered 1-52. Once you have purchased the number of weeks you will use the resort will guarantee that they will be waiting for you at that time.

A Floating Time timeshare works by buying your vacation time by the size of unit and season of the year, which is not designated as to the actual date or week of the year. This type of timeshare will give you the responsibility to contact your resort each year and confirm your arrival to the resort.

One of the advantages of this timeshare is offering you flexibility in your schedule; however, it is usually based on a first come-first served basis. This means that highly desirable weeks are often full during their season. Also, when exchanging you should first affix or reserve your time at your resort before the exchange companies will accept it for deposit.

Another type of timeshare is called “Points.” This kind of timeshare is the newest form of timeshare and has become very popular. The way this works is you purchase a number of points or credits, which will enable you to travel in a specific season of the year. You can also use most credit or points-based resorts for a maximum number of weeks purchased to a minimum of one night. The only drawbacks for this are the accounting systems. They are sometimes confusing and are subject to availability similar to the floating time.

The Multi-Location timeshare enables you to have more flexibility to visit other timeshares in other locations as long as it is within the same timeshare organization, either far or near as long as it belongs within the group.

* Which is the most popular type of timeshare?

The most popular type of timeshare is the deeded ownership or fee simple but the points are also becoming more popular.

* What is a fixed week timeshare?

The fixed week timeshare is the most familiar form and the oldest kind of timeshare. This works by purchasing one or more weeks to be used at the same time each year at your resort from which the weeks are numbered 1-52. Once you have purchased the number of weeks you will use the resort will guarantee that your timeshare property will be waiting for you at that time.

* What is a timeshare fractional membership?

A timeshare fractional membership is a vacation real estate development owned by several members and operated for their enjoyment. This means that each member owns a fraction of the unit ranging from four to twelve owners per unit, a club residence as well as an interest in the club facilities and common areas.

* What is the difference between a timeshare Fee Simple Ownership, a Certificate Ownership and a Leasehold?

The differences can be seen in how you actually have rights and ownership to the property. Each system allows you to have the time period wherein you can use the property.

In a Fee Simple Ownership, your ownership of the property is forever. You will get a deed for your share. You purchase a number of weeks in which you can use the property.

A Certificate ownership gives you a certain time period wherein you own the property. This depicts a certain time frame wherein you are a timeshare owner of a property.

Leasehold timeshare is when a state does to allow a deeded ownership of a property. You have a lease on a certain property in a certain period of time wherein you timeshare that property.

For a lot of people sleeping disorder is a big problem. Sleeping is an important part of our day. This is the time that the body and mind gets to rest, resuscitate, and prepare for the busy day that is in store for them the next morning. It has been estimated that over 30 percent of Americans suffer from some form of sleeping disorder.

One of the most well known sleeping disorder is insomnia. It is estimated that over 15 percent of Americans suffer from this sleeping disorder. Insomnia is characterized by the body’s habitual inability to fall or stay asleep for long periods of time. In itself insomnia is not considered a disease, but rather it is a symptom. Some of the cause why people get insomnia includes: stress, psychological reasons, consumption of too much caffeine, and bad sleeping habits.

But sleeping disorders does not stop here. There are many other different types of sleeping disorder. This list includes:

Snoring- This is one of the most common sleeping disorder. This is when individuals who are asleep produce rough, raspy, noises while in the act of sleeping due to an open mouth. This causes the soft palate and the uvula to vibrate. It can also be caused by an obstruction in the breathing pathway of a person. Some attribute snoring to poor breathing pattern, and allergies.

Sleepwalking- This also goes by the name somnambulism and noctambulism. This is when individuals walk in their sleep or do other action associated with the state of wakefulness. While with some people sleep walking is harmless, to others this becomes a health hazard, since they pose some danger to themselves. Some have inadvertently hurt themselves while sleepwalking. It has been projected that 10 percent of all people will experience sleep walking at some time in their life!

Narcolepsy- This is when individuals are suddenly and uncontrollably fall asleep. Sometimes this is even occurs with hallucinations, and paralysis. This condition is chronic. As of now there is no known cure for narcolepsy. But this condition can be managed with medication.

- feeling lethargic, or sleepy all throughout the day
- suddenly falling asleep during daytime
- having an extremely difficult time falling asleep
- having a hard time concentrating during work or school

Some tips on how to sleep better at night:

1. Lying on your back aggravates snoring. Individuals who snore should try lying on their side. This will help to lessen snoring.

2. Avoid caffeine. Caffeine is a stimulant. A lot people who suffer from insomnia do so because they consume too much caffeine. This should especially be avoided during night time, when individuals are just about getting ready to go to sleep.

3. Those who have narcolepsy- taking naps during the day can help individuals remain alert. Also, some exercise will help get rid of sluggishness.

4. Individuals should not force themselves to fall asleep if they do not feel sleepy. This will only add additional stress, and frustration to them and make it all the more harder for them to fall asleep.

Having a sleeping disorder can be extremely frustrating. The good news is that making some lifestyle changes, or seeking the help of a medical expert can help improve this condition.

Remarkable Growth In Demand For Payday Cash Advances

The demand for payday cash advances has experienced remarkable growth over the past few years. Cash advances are becoming more popular as people come to realize that the process is safe and efficient. And when used properly, cash advances are an excellent way to deal with short-term financial crunches. The application process is fast and straightforward and most important of all, its secure. But are these reasons fueling the remarkable growth in demand for payday cash advances?

If not, then what is? Many people would blame this rapid growth on the economy. Rising prices on everything from gasoline to clothing is stretching peoples budgets. The only thing thats not rising is salaries.

Easy application and approval

While its true that times are tough, its not enough to explain the rapid growth in demand for payday cash advances. What may be driving the demand is the fact that this type of short-term funding is so very easy to obtain. Search the Internet or drive down any busy road and in seconds youll find countless business offering cash advances, payday loans and fast cash.

Regardless of what you call it, anyone who receives a steady paycheck and is at least 18 years old can apply. Approval isnt dependent upon a solid credit history and in most cases approval takes less than 30 minutes. Applicants need only provide a few personal details and select the cash advance amount they require. If approved, funds typically are wired into an applicants bank account the next business day. Applicants repay the cash advance on a schedule that coincides with their next payday; usually in about 10 14 days.

Fees are reasonable

Something else thats behind the remarkable growth in demand for payday cash advances is the realization that the fees charged for this type of advance are generally lower than the fees people are charged when theyre late making a credit card or utility payment or when theyve bounced a check. Besides these fees, late payments and insufficient funds can seriously damage a persons credit. It simply doesnt make sense to pay that kind of money and risk damaging your credit just because an emergency came up and your paycheck happens to not be enough to pay your bills this month.

No restrictions on money usage

Could the fact that there are no restrictions on how you use the money be fueling the growth in demand for payday cash advances? Its quite possible. When you apply for a car loan, you have to buy a car. When you apply for a mortgage, its to buy a home. But when you apply for a payday cash advance, you can use the money any way you need. Use it to pay off higher than usual credit card bills like those that arrive after the holidays, or to pay for emergency auto or home repairs. Since the money is yours to use as you choose, you could even use it to go away on vacation! Perhaps that explains the remarkable growth in demand for payday cash advances.

Power Personified With Massive Arms

Remember when you were in High School. So many characters and personalities. Big guys, big mouths, funny guys, funny gals and many many more one of a kind kids. Heres one I think youll relate to.

My first impression of Gillie was as 12 year old. He was so immense. I remember thinking that I did not want to be hit by him.
If I had Gillie on my team I knew I had an edge. A powerful advantage.

Gillie was the Paul Bunyon of my neighborhood. He had 20-22 biceps, and a neck almost as round. Weighing 220 pounds, he stood six feet one inch and had no fat on his body. Not an ounce of blubber. I had never seen any one like him in my life. He ambled when he walked. The kind of walk someone has when they know they have nothing to fear. His nickname was Mr Clean. He looked a lot like the cleaning icon. Except Gillie had no earring.

On the baseball diamond, Gillie was awesome. His fungo shots to the outfielders in pre game warm-ups touched parts of the sky usually reserved for small engine planes. He scared the other team. He looked like Mickey Mantle, Harmon Killabrew and Ted Kluzewski all rolled into one.

Smacking a softball was where Gillie excelled. His shots were legendary. He was one of a handful that hit the ball over the right field fence. The fence was 270 280 feet away and climbed 40 feet high. He was the only person I ever saw that hit a ball that soared over that fence onto Goldsmith Avenue. His hits seemed to gain height as they cleared the fence.

For me, Gillie always represented strength, dedication and just being a real good guy. He never used his size and strength to put others down. It was his way of building himself up. Whether he batted right handed or lefty you would always see the outfield back up and the infield shift to much deeper positions.

Feel free to pass this on to anyone you think would enjoy reading about baseball.

Chronic Daily Headache: Same Old, Same Old

Chronic daily headache (CDH) refers to the unhappy situation in which headaches are present at least fifteen days per month. Headaches can even occur every day or almost every day. CDH is more of a category than a final diagnosis, and different, recognizable patterns of headache are included in this category. It is important to distinguish among the different patterns because, once recognized, they can indicate the underlying cause and dictate appropriate treatment.

CDH can occur in the form of either primary headaches or secondary headaches. Secondary headache means that the headache is a symptom of some other disease or process. In this case, the best treatment is the one that addresses the underlying cause. Primary headache means that the headache disorder itself is the disease and is not a symptom of something else.

The most common primary headache condition is tension-type headaches. Generally affecting the left and right sides equally, tension-type headaches often involve the back of the head and neck, but can also include the front of the head. These headaches are usually mild to moderate in intensity and have pressing or tightening qualities. Nausea, photosensitivity and sound sensitivity are not prominent in this headache disorder and tension-type headaches do not usually worsen with exertion.

Migraine is another common primary headache disorder which, when present more days than not, is also categorized as CDH. Migraine attacks typically last 4-72 hours when untreated. They are of moderate to severe intensity and often have a pulsating quality. They show increased tendency to affect just one side of the head and to include the associated symptoms of nausea, light sensitivity and sound sensitivity. They usually worsen with exertion.

While some people have frequent, individual, migraine attacks that span more than 15 days per month and are therefore categorized as CDH, another form of migraine involves a blending together of attacks into a more continuous, never-ending pattern. This usually occurs in people who previously had the more recognizable pattern of distinct, individual, migraine attacks. Just what happens in these cases–or even what to call it when it does happen–is a source of great debate among headache experts. One camp of experts calls it chronic migraine and another camp calls it transformed migraine.

To make matters even more interesting, a person can have more than one type of headache, for example, a mixture of migraine and tension-type headaches. When this occurs, the mixture can be difficult to distinguish from the previously mentioned chronic (or transformed) migraine.

Two other kinds of primary headache are rarer than migraine and tension-type headaches, and show quite different characteristics. These are hemicrania continua and chronic cluster. Hemicrania continua (hemicrania means half-headed and continua means continuous) is a strictly one-sided headache which can wax and wane in intensity without resolving. It does not include migraines usual associated symptoms of nausea, light sensitivity, sound sensitivity and exertional aggravation. Chronic cluster, like its less-frequent episodic form, involves intense, recurring pain in or around just one eye that lasts for only 15-180 minutes per attack, but which can occur more than once per day. Unlike its episodic cousin, chronic cluster does not go into remission without treatment.

Secondary headaches taking the form of CDH can be due to numerous causes. Among them are head injury, arthritis of the neck bones, arthritis of the jaw joints (TMJs), sinus disease, breathing problems during sleep, tumors or other conditions causing increased pressure within the braincase, and leakages of the cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord.

Two secondary forms of CDH deserve special mention–giant cell arteritis and medication overuse headaches. Giant cell arteritis (previously called temporal arteritis) occurs in people who are at least 50 years old and becomes more common in subsequent decades of life. It involves inflammation of larger-diameter arteries supplying blood to the brain and the rest of the head and, untreated, can lead to stroke or blindness. So it is important to recognize and treat this source of headaches before these complications occur. Classically, people with giant cell arteritis show a swollen, stiff, tender artery just beneath the skin of one or both temples. When this occurs, it facilitates diagnosis, but giant cell arteritis can still be present in the absence of this tell-tale sign. As a rule of thumb, giant cell arteritis should be considered as a possible diagnosis in every new headache disorder starting at the age of 50 or older.

Medication overuse headaches (also known as rebound headaches) occur when a primary headache disorder becomes transformed into an even worse secondary headache disorder via too many doses of as-needed medication. Typically, the primary headache disorders involved are either migraine or tension-type headaches, and the transformation occurs when the headache-sufferer takes need-driven medication for them at least two to three days each week. When the as-needed medication is a painkiller this syndrome is called analgesic rebound and when a triptan drug is used, it is called triptan rebound. Triptans are newer drugs, which include sumatriptan (Imitrex) and rizatriptan (Maxalt), that interact with specific chemical receptors and halt the generation of migraine attacks. The bottom line with medication overuse headaches is that they dont get better until the drug that caused them is withdrawn and, even then, can take up to two months to wash out.

The group of disorders known as chronic daily headache afflicts 3-5% of the worldwide population and is a source of major disability in the form of lost or decreased functioning at home and at work. While many people with CDH treat them on their own, medical management can reduce suffering and improve quality of life.

The Effects of Over-training and on Women’s Health

Countless women nowadays are striving to lose weight some restrict their food intake and engage in intense exercise routines. The long list may include athletes, super models, and ordinary women who believe that thin is sexy. These individuals tend to exercise too much and eat too little. Women who engage in such activities are at risk of many health problems like amenorrhea, a term that refers to the absence of menstrual periods. This is experienced by women because of extremely low body fat content. Missed menstrual is often linked to decreased estrogen (primary female sex hormone) levels. Several medical studies show that amenorrheic women and those who have below 10% body fat may have a hard time getting pregnant.

But, his plans went asunder when he failed his final exams in nearly all of his classes including history, constitutional organization, political economy and bookkeeping. His father later noted that Mauk drew and created a linocut of a sunflower to comfort himself after the blunder.

2. No Apt Pupil
He was later able to retake the exams and entered the school in Delft. It was here that Professor R.N. Roland Holst encouraged him to try his hand at woodcuts and engraving versus architecture. The legendary art of MC Escher had achieved its planting.

3. The Creature In The Forest
Not wanting to disappoint his parents, Mauk continued with architectural studies. However with poor grades Mauk had to find another school in order to do so. He made a last ditch attempt at it at the School for Architecture and Decorative Arts. Then a chance meeting occurred with Samuel Jesserum de Mesquita, a graphic arts teacher. It was a red-letter day for MC Escher aka Mauk. De Mesquita convinced him that he would be much better suited for a career in graphic arts than architecture.

4. Head In The Clouds
Where and when did Escher begin his methodical approach to his life and art? Well, as a child Mauk had an intensely acute sense of wonder. And like many children he would lie on his back and gaze to the sky, seeing shapes in the clouds. With the strong influence from his parents engineering background, it is no wonder then that young Mauk began to see how these free floating shapes could evolve and dissolve in the white pillowy vapor. Tactile applications began to form in his mind making logic out of random chaos.

5. The Puzzler
He was often frustrated with his lack of drawing ability and regarded his mathematical prowess as insecure at best. However he developed his own categorization system that covered all the possible combinations of shape, color and symmetrical properties. By doing so, he had unknowingly studied areas of crystallography for many years. This was the groundwork for his patterns, known as tessellations.

Tessellate: to construct, pave, or decorate something with small pieces such as stone or glass in order to give a mosaic effect.

6. Impossible Architect
His most famous works of art often depict enigmatic turns and twists that fold back onto themselves. Ascending and Descending, Relativity and the Transformation Prints, such as, Metamorphosis I, II and III, Sky & Water and Reptiles which are among the most recognized of his work.

7. On His Mind
What would Escher think?
How would he feel about computer programs that can now automatically create the intricate tessellations he slaved over for hours on end?

He often wrote to his son Arthur about the conundrums he faced with his work, “God, I wish I could learn to draw better! It takes so much effort and perseverance to do it well. Sometimes I am close to delirium with pure nerves. It is really only a question of battling on relentlessly with constant and, if possible, merciless self-criticism. I think that making prints the way I do it is almost only a matter of very much wanting to do it well. For the most part, things like talent are mere poppycock. Any schoolboy with a bit of aptitude might draw better than I; but what is usually lacking is the unwavering desire for expression, obstinacy gnashing its teeth and saying, ‘Even though I know I cannot do it, I still want to do it.’”

Maybe he himself wouldn’t have minded the aid of a computer in concocting his elaborate creations. Most likely he would have seen it as just another tool for bringing his visions to light.

8. Virtual Relativity
However, he most likely would have felt out of touch with his art. Like so many artists today, their art is no longer tactile. It lacks mass and weight because it only exists virtually on a computer screen. Escher adorned many of his prints with the phrase, “eigen druk”. The literal translation means, “This print is drawn with my own hands”.

9. A Rolling Stone
The lead singer of the Rolling Stones, Mick Jagger, started a series of letters to Escher on New Year’s Day in 1969. Jagger wanted to use one of Escher’s works on the jacket of their newest LP, “Through the Past Darkly”. Mick was a huge fan of Escher, but Escher did not return the sentiment. Escher was not a tame person, but he preferred classical music to rock and roll. Due to his many obligations at the time, Escher declined to provide Jagger with any designs for their cover art. Much to Jagger’s disappointment, the album was released with a hexagonally designed cover-sleeve that was influenced by Escher’s “Verbum” image.

10. Wandering Enigma
He was constantly amazed at what other people would read into his creations and would often debunk any kind of elaborate explanations.

“I have never attempted to depict anything mystic; what some people claim to be mysterious is nothing more than a conscious or unconscious deceit! I have played a lot of tricks, and I have had a fine old time expressing concepts in visual terms, with no other aim than to find out ways of putting them on to paper.”

Take a look at some of the art of MC Escher.

Benefits of Folic Acid

Introduction:

Folic acid, a water soluble B vitamin, occurs naturally in food and can also be taken as food supplements. Naturally occurring sources of folic acid includes green leaf vegetables (spinach, turnip), poultry, pork, shellfish, peas beans, liver, cereal and citrus furies. Folic acid is one of the necessary elements required for production and maintenance of human cell.

Folic acid deficiency and diseases:

Folic acid deficiency may cause various disorders. Some of these are highlighted below.

Folic acid deficiency may cause weakness, poor growth, graying hair, inflammation of the tongue, palpitations and behavioral disorder.
Folic acid deficiency is also associated with common stomach disorders including diarrhea, mouth ulcer and peptic ulcer, loss of appetite and weight loss.
Folic acid deficiency in pregnant women may cause premature delivery, low birth weight of infants and infants with neural tube defects (NTD s).
Anemia is sometimes associated with the advance stage of folic acid deficiency.
You may need increased folic acid intake if you are anemic, have kidney or liver disease, pregnant or breast-feeding. In all such cases you should consult your doctor before taking folic acid supplements.
The maximum folic acid intake should be limited to 1000 micro grams per day or as directed by the health care provider.
Some other medications may interact with folic acid includes medicines for epilepsy, medicines for controlling blood sugar, methotrexate (medicines for treating cancer) and diuretics. If you are taking any of these medicines, you should contact your doctor.
If you are 50 years of age, you should carry out your vitamin B 12 level before taking supplemental diet of folic acid, as these are chances of interaction between B12 vitamins and folic acid.

Folic acid benefits:

Role of folic acid during pregnancy:

Neural tube defects (NTD s) is a major defect of brain and spine in babies causing damage to the brain or spine. The major NTD s include spina bifida ( spine problem) and

Anencephaly (brain problem) and up to 70% of these NTD s can be prevented by taking enough folic acid every day before conception and during pregnancy.

A woman is likely to be at higher risk to deliver a NTD s affected baby if she has a previous NTD s affected pregnancy, is diabetic, takes medicine to treat epilepsy and is of Hispanic ethnicity.

Every woman, who is likely to become pregnant, should take 400 micro grams of folic acid every day. Consuming supplemental folic acid in addition to a healthy folic acid rich diet before and during pregnancy significantly reduces the risk of having neural tube defects in babies.

Spina Bifida and Anencephaly disorders: Spina bifida is a spine disorder and part of spine at the lower end is damaged and a sack of fluid is entrapped in the babys back. Most children born with this spinal disorder survives full life and often has lifelong symptoms including unable to move lower part of the body, loss of bowl and bladder and fluid pressure to the brain.

Anencephaly is a brain disorder and part of the brain skull bones may not form in babies. Most of the babies having this defects die before or just after birth.

Role of folic acid and heart disease:

Low concentration of folic acid may increase the amino acid homocysteine in the blood levels and consequently increases the risk of heart disease. High level of homocysteine may damage the coronary arteries or can cause the blood clots, however there is no evidence that supplemented folic acid will reduce the risk of heart disease.

Role of folic acid and cancer:

Folic acid is one of the essential elements involved in the synthesis of DNA and its deficiency may cause defects in DNA and consequently may lead to cancer. There are enough evidence to conclude that the deficiency of folic acid is associated with the increased risk of breast, colon and pancreatic cancer, however it is not advisable to supplement folic acid for reducing the risk of such cancers.

Divisional Outlook – Al Central

The AL Central race is beginning to take shape as we move into the second month of the baseball season, and it appears that teams are lining up to engage in a season-long chase of the defending World Series Champions Chicago White Sox. Each teams progress, or lack thereof, is detailed below.

Chicago White Sox

Currently
After a magical run to the title last season, the White Sox are back on top of the division. Many members of the baseball public, writers, pundits and fans alike, expected a bit of a swoon from this team after winning its first title in 88 years last fall. As of this writing, nothing could be further from the truth. The White Sox are sustaining last seasons success with a lethal combination of heavy hitting and stingy pitching. Six regular players are batting over .300 at this point, and Jim Thome is leading the AL in home runs. The pitchers, led by Jose Contreras AL-leading 1.41 ERA, are third in the AL in team ERA.

Outlook
There is no reason to foresee the White Sox doing anything but continuing to excel. When a team has several players having good years and the momentum and confidence that come with a championship, an aura and an expectation of winning persists. The White Sox will ably defend their title.

Detroit Tigers

Currently
Under the leadership of new manager Jim Leyland, the Tigers, after years of struggling, are off to a surprising start. The Tigers sit just behind the White Sox and appear to have a nucleus in place that could change the losing culture in Motown for good. Five regulars are hitting over or near .300, and two players, Magglio Ordonez and Chris Shelton, have already reached double digits in home runs. The pitching staff is also performing at a high level, as the Tigers lead the AL in team ERA. It appears that the team is finally constructed to fit the pitching-friendly confines of Comerica Park.

Outlook
If young players including Mike Maroth and Nate Robertson can continue to contribute heavily to the Tigers pitching effort, and equally young players Shelton and Brandon Inge stay in their grooves, the Tigers will challenge the White Sox until October.

Cleveland Indians

Currently
The Indians, coming off a 93-win 2005 season and a 6-1 start to the 2006 campaign, have struggled lately. However, the team is hanging around at near .500 and hoping that their pitching staff gets healthy and improves. The Tribe is an offensive juggernaut, leading the AL in runs scored, hits, doubles, RBIs and team batting average. However, their young pitching staff has been ravaged by injury problems, and several young hurlers are being thrust into the lineup, perhaps too soon. The Indians rank near the bottom of the AL in staff ERA and opponents batting average.

Outlook
If the pitching staff can come around, the Indians will be a major factor down the stretch. Their hitting is scary for any opposing pitching staff, and players like Ben Broussard, Casey Blake and Victor Martinez are leading the efforts.

Minnesota Twins

Currently
The Twins have long been known as The Small Market Team that Could. Although the Twins are hanging around much like the Indians, their statistical outputs thus far are a bit troubling both in terms of hitting and pitching. The Twins rank near the bottom of the league in runs scored, hits and team batting average. Their pitching staff is currently second-from-last in team ERA. Whats good about the team? Despite these statistical trends, the Twins are staying competitive, and young phenom Joe Mauer is blossoming before our eyes.

Outlook
The Twins have been bad on the stat sheet, but their record is better than what these stats would normally indicate. If Mauer continues to grow, their pitching staff comes around and the always-young team gels as the season progresses, theyll wind up where they always seem to – in contention for the postseason.

Kansas City Royals

Currently
The Royals have been victims of several circumstances – a young team, injuries, and placement in one of the most difficult divisions in all of baseball. As such, their record thus far is disappointing. The Royals do appear to have some developing talent with the likes of Shane Costa and Esteban German, but the overall offensive firepower is lacking. The teams pitching ranks towards the bottom of the AL in several categories.

Outlook
The Royals need to continue to develop young talent, take their lumps and hope that they can continue to add pieces to a young nucleus. Kansas City is a loyal sports town, and the victory-starved fans would like nothing better than a show of tangible progress as the season continues.

Why Fuel Prices Go Up?

Numerous forces can influence the price of gas at the pump, but fuel costs are only one part in the vast web of global economics. Gas prices have an impact on other parts of the economy as well. There are immediate effects of rising prices – that feeling of stunned disbelief as the numbers climb and climb while you fill your tank. There are secondary effects as well. You might decide against a long road trip because the gas would cost too much. When it comes time to buy a car, you might decide against a gas-guzzling SUV and find something with better mileage instead. Price increases generally occur when the world crude-oil market tightens and lowers inventories. Also, growing demand can sometimes outpace refinery capacity.

Gas prices also vary from state to state for several reasons. Taxes are probably the biggest factor in the different prices around the country. Additionally, competition among local gas stations can drive prices down. Distance from the oil refineries can also affect prices — stations closer to the Gulf of Mexico, where many oil refineries are located, have lower gas prices due to lower transportation costs. There are also some regional factors that can affect prices.

World events, wars and weather can also raise prices. Anything that affects any part of the process, from the moment the oil is drilled, through refining and distribution to your car will result in a change in price. Military conflicts in parts of the world with lots of oil supplies can make it difficult for oil companies to drill and ship crude oil. Hurricanes have damaged offshore drilling platforms, coastal refineries and shipping ports that receive oil tankers. If a tanker itself is lost or damaged, or leaks its oil into the ocean, that will put a dent in the market as well.
In some regions of the country, gasoline is required to meet higher environmental standards in order to reduce the amount of smog created by burning gasoline. Producing this cleaner-burning gasoline can cause problems in refining, distribution and storage, which increases the cost of gas.

Travelling Beyond The Algarve Reveals The Real Portugal

The Algarve is atypical sun and sand holiday destination attracting tens of thousands of Europeans every summer. Although the region has much to offer both the package holiday maker, independent traveller and, of course, golfer, many visitors to Portugal fail to get beyond the trappings of the holiday resorts and sample the real Portugal.

Outside of the Algarve, Portugal has a long and illustrious history. An independent nation since 1143, Portugal is one of the oldest nations in Europe and its location on the Atlantic coast of the Iberian Peninsula dictates a long history of sea faring and discovery. A vast monumental and cultural legacy has been left for modern visitors to enjoy. The tourist information site gives an interesting and informative overview of the cultural and historic attractions of the country as well as useful guides to the regions and cities of Portugal (http://www.portugal.org/tourism/index.html ).

The capital city, Lisbon, is an ideal location for a short break and is rapidly gaining a reputation as such. A thriving and bustling mix of the old and new, Lisbon retains a respect for its historic past whilst offering the visitor the attractions and amenities that could be expected of a main European city. The city is dominated by the old port area the departure point for explorers such as Magellan and recent regeneration of the area is sympathetic and impressive. Lisbon comes to life at night as the locals descend on the pavement restaurants and bars creating a relaxed, sociable and informal atmosphere.

Further North and the impressive, World Heritage status city of Porto can be found. The city, of course, lends its name to the world famous variety of wine but the citys baroque and Romanesque architecture leave a lasting and perhaps not as regrettable impression. Although the Algarve signs to mind when you mention beaches and Portugal, the coastal region of Minho, to the north of Porto have perhaps the most stunning beaches in the country. The area has some resorts, but these are quieter and smaller in scale to their southern counterparts and offer a quieter, perhaps more relaxed beach holiday than the Algarve.

Travelling to Portugal via, Lisbon, Porto or Faro is relatively easy from the UK with most operators offering direct flights from a range of UK airports. Internal flights are relatively inexpensive and the rail system is cheap and efficient. Portugal is a relatively small country and is negotiable by road for those looking to traverse wide areas. Car rental in Portugal is abundant especially in Lisbon and Porto and most of the major car hire firms offer one way or return car hire in Portugal (http://www.easycar.com/car-hire/destination/Portugal.aspx/EN ).

The Algarve is an ideal family holiday destination and has many charms but Portugal as a country has much more to offer for those willing to explore a little further.

Exploring Malta By Car Offers More

Tens of thousands of European holiday makers will plan, book and descend upon the shores of Malta this summer but as one of Europes best known and loved destinations might have more to offer than the typical package holiday might suggest. The islands position at the centre of the Mediterranean has resulted in a rich legacy stretching back some 7,000 years offering a cultural and historical wealth that would be of interest to those not usually inclined to snap up the benefits of a traditional package holiday.

A staging post at the crossroads of maritime routes, Malta has been, at various times in its history, a stronghold, home and refuge. Its unique position between the mainland of Africa and Europe have attracted a rich tapestry of cultural influences that can be felt in the island today. The islands capital, Valletta, is a historic, walled town founded by knights is an interesting, baroque influenced town that has recently been awarded the accolade of World Heritage City. A heady mix of old and new, Valletta offers historic attractions, modern culture and a bustling atmosphere a world away from the traditional resorts of St Julians and Silema.

Exploring beyond the traditional resorts gives a greater impression of Malta and a more rewarding experience to the more independently spirited traffic. The south of the island is characterised by small fishing villages and secluded bays offering an authentic insight into rural Maltese life while inland the medieval walled town of Madina boats a rich heritage and historic attractions as Maltas ancient capital. Maltas tourist website (http://www.visitmalta.com ) provides a suitable introduction to the islands wider attractions.

Escaping the resort towns and venturing further is well worth the effort in Malta and whether you are looking for an independent holiday of culture and history or merely a day or two away from the sun and sand, the island has plenty to offer. Travelling in Malta is relatively straight forward but getting off the beaten track can be a little difficult with public transport. The best way to explore is be rental car and most of the major car hire firms in Malta (http://www.easycar.com/car-hire/links/Malta.aspx/EN ).

For further exploration of Malta take a boat trip to the sister islands of Gozo and Comino for a more tranquil and sedate taste of Mediterranean life. Accommodation here is limited but well worth the effort is you trult want to get off the beaten track on holiday in Malta.
