Offshore Software Development: The Benefits and Pitfalls of Virtual Teams

In today’s competitive business environment, small- and medium-sized businesses are often edged out by their larger counterparts. Until now, large multinational corporations enjoyed the advantage of having affordable resources spread out across the globe. Their use of offshore software development meant that they could get the custom software they needed at a fraction of the cost of utilizing in house employees. Times have changed, though, and now businesses of every size can regain the competitive edge by outsourcing software development.

Dubai Gives Up on US Ports

After several months of suffering numerous criticisms, the United Arab Emirates finally yields to political antagonism. Dubai Ports World has ordered the removal of the facilities from the five ports they have purchased from the United States. Dubai has announced their decision right after the meeting between the Republican representatives in both the House and Senate was concluded. In the private meeting held in the morning, the leaders told Bush that that transaction between the U.S and the United Arab Emirates was destined to fail.

Some business factions said that this mounting paranoia in the U.S Senate could possibly harm future trade investments. This defeat, some warned, may come back and haunt the U.S because it may damage the relationship between both countries. It should be noted that the UAE is an important ally nation of the United States in the Middle East. In an act to save the rapport between the two countries, UAEs Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum has decided to hand the operations of the P and O Ports North America Inc. to the supervision of the U.S.

Just last February, DP World has announced that they will put their plan to take over the management of six US ports after numerous bombardment of criticisms by several parties. Concerns over the national security of the U.S were voiced out if ever the deal were to take place. It is a well-known fact that the Middle East is home to the terrorist group Al-Queda with some members coming from the United Arab Emirates. Critics who opposed the deal used this as the basis of their opposition, saying that handling the management of the ports to a nation with questionable association to terrorists would compromise national security.

England, along with some officials, defended the deal. They said that paranoia should not be allowed to rule the minds of the people. They added that this is exactly what the terrorists want to happen. Administration officials have repeatedly said that although the management of the ports is going to be handed to the DP World, the national security will still be under the U.S entities’ supervision such as the Coast Guard and the Customs of Border Protection.

However, this assurance didnt stop the House to vote in opposition to the deal, and quite overwhelmingly. After reviewing the transaction under the agreed time of 45 days, the House vote resulted in a 62-2 vote against UAEs management of the U.S ports.

According to White House officials, the decision came about after the meeting of the Congress and DP World. It has also been said that the senior officials of the administration had no direct involvement in the meeting. Several upper bodies of both governments discussed the issue and worked out a result, which was for the United Arab Emirates-based company to back out. After several weeks of controversy and heated discussions, the conclusion came surprisingly swift. It is still unknown how the company would formalize its departure but DP world would not suffer any substantial economic loss.

I Always Look At License Plates

I am one of those people that always gets a little board when I drive. I love to be in the car, but I get a little ansy when I have nothing other than driving to do. Being in the car with friends or family is great because then we can share good conversation, but I don’t always have people in the car with me. I recently took a long road trip across most of the country. It sounds crazy, but I actually drove from Virginia to Oregon and back for a project I was working on. I started looking at license plates to pass the time.

I agreed to do the long road trip for my job. My magazine editor was looking for a writer who would take two months away from the office and write a series of pieces about traveling across country in a car without maps and without a plan of where to stay or where to travel. I took the offer without thinking about my disdain for being in the car alone for hours on end. And let me assure you that this project required long hours alone. Within a hundred miles of leaving our office in Virginia I had begun searching for different license plates. I got out a notepad and began to record each of the different license plates I saw.

My goal became to see all the license plates of the fifty states and as many varieties of each state license plate in the two months of my road trip. I figured that in that amount of time on high ways and roads in so many states I’d have a really good chance of seeing all the license plates. I doubted that I’d come across Hawaii or Alaska, but I was hopeful about the other forty eight states.

You wouldn’t believe how much of my energy was taken up during that road trip by searching for various license plates. It kept me awake during long stretches of road when I would usually be bored and distracted. I loved keeping track of the license plates and of how close I was getting to my goal. I told friends, family and co-workers about my main source of entertainment during the trip and I receive a variety of reactions from them. Some thought that looking for license plates was a great way to pass the time, others laughed at my goal and thought I should be doing more productive things during the two months on the road.

Translation Companies: Getting The Best Out Of Your Translators

Global trade has necessitated translation to and from many languages of the globe. An intricate process, owning to variations in syntax and construction rules in world languages, translation entails a careful selection of translator and reviewer services.

Since you cant review the quality of a translated document, you can make sure that:

1. The document you are giving for translation is of the best level possible.

2. The team you are paying meets your top notch requirements.

Before handing off:

1. Initiate the spell check and grammar check: An obvious but a completely necessary step. Remember, if your document is error free, there will be fewer translation errors to deal with!

2. Keep a copy of the document with you: This might seem like a superflous suggestion but an excessively enormous number of people forget to do so!

3. In your document: Keep the sentences short and clear and avoid using abbreviations (Say can not instead of cant).

Deciding on the translator:

1. Inexpensive is not best. Your neighbors kid who took a French paper last year might be able to flaunt his French connection but translation is a professional calling. Paying less might turn out to be very costly for you.

2. Choose a service provider who has a large number of years of experience in translating into the language you are seeking.

3. The translator should be a native user of the language and must be conversant with the culture and minutiae of the language he/she is attempting to translate from.

4. The translator should also be able to understand the finer nuances of the language he/she is translating from.

5. Choose a translation company that offers to take the complete project – from translation to editing, proofreading and even desktop publishing.

After handing over

Handing over the document doesnt ensure great translation. Your inputs will be important even after handing over. Time invested here will extract advantages in terms of error free documents of great quality.

1. Make sure you have a detailed discussion about your project with the service provider to explain your requirements and to understand his/her concerns.

2. Be accessible to answer concerns and questions whenever the translator requires you.

Some more things

1. Never press the translator to do a sloppy job. Think through your project well and build in time for assessments and translations properly.

2. Select a good reviewer with the help of your translator.

3. Dont submit a half finished document. Translating corrections and additions can be pricey and may introduce errors.

4. Never try to piece together bits of translated material yourself.

Ensuring the quality of translated documents is as much your responsibility as that of your translator. You can ensure quality by also insisting proofreading and making sure that the numbers, dates and figures are error-free.

You also need to share supporting documents like references and glossaries with your translator to enable him/her to do a better job. Most of all, you must set realistic turn around time for your translators.

Stress Relief Need Not Be Expensive

Yesterday, I got the shock of my life when a woman suddenly stood in front of me as I waited in line inside my favorite coffee shop. The woman was in her mid-40s and apparently was a top business executive. For the life of me, I could not understand why she had the gall to cut in line. I felt my blood rush to my head and my heart thumping so loud — this time, because of anger. For me, it was another moment of anxiety in an already stressed out week. The good thing about the incident was that I was able to maintain my composure and did not allow Ms. No Manners to get to me. I just calmed myself and decided not to make a big deal out of it. After all, that woman may be just like me — a stressed-out career woman.

My Favourite Hobby: Snow Boarding

Since moving into the suburbs, I have developed a new hobby: snow boarding. Snow boarding is great fun, and the reason I got started is because I used to go surfing when I lived by the beach, and when I moved away from the coast I had to find something new to satisfy my fix for extreme, white-knuckle sport. When I moved to my new college, everyone was talking about snow boarding, and a lot of my peers considered snow boarding an excellent hobby. When they asked if I wanted to attend, I was more than happy to come along and take part.

Wooden Baseball Bats – From Wood to Aluminum

The baseball bat is a simple concept but a pretty complicated object. Here are some baseball bats facts to enlighten you about its interesting history and design. The more you know about baseball bats, the more you will find yourself in love with this fascinating sport. It’s essential to get a grip on the bat’s most basic concepts before you make a buying decision. So, without further ado, here are some interesting baseball bats facts:

A baseball bat is essentially a smooth rod that the batter uses to hit the ball thrown by the pitcher, signaling the other players to run around the bases and ultimately try and score a homerun. The thickest part of the bat, the part that is supposed to hit the ball, is called the barrel and the best part of the barrel for hitting the ball is called the sweet spot. The barrel ultimately gets thinner and thinner until it forms into the handle. On metal bats, rubber may wind around the handle for good grip. The knob is at the very opposite end of the barrel’s tip and helps a batter to hang onto the bat so that it doesn’t fly away! Think about this before purchasing that cheap bat that no one else seems to care for.

In the early days of baseball, younger players were most prevalent and the majority of bats were handmade, so sizes and shapes varied wildly. But as baseball became more of an official, regulated sport, so did the baseball bats. In 1859, rules were made about the diameter of the bat, and to this day every kind of league has their own individual rules. Therefore, be sure you are clear on your league’s rules on baseball bat measurements. Although all bats look very similar to each other, there are minuscule differences that are not obvious to the human eye. I hope these historic baseball bats facts were useful!

When Teams Don’t Work: 10 Major Reasons

Copyright 2006 Colleen Kettenhofen

“Ability is what you are capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.” Lou Holtz

There are a number of reasons why teams fail, and why there is a lack of productivity or accountability within various teams in the workplace. In conducting leadership and team building programs worldwide over the last ten years, I hear almost day in and day out the main reasons why teams aren’t more productive. Team leaders often report to me, “There’s no accountability.” Or, “Our team members handle communication and conflict resolution differently, and don’t always get along.” Communication and effective interpersonal skills are essential tools for a team’s survival. Often, a team simply needs a good “airing” of the issues during team building meetings. Here are 10 of the most common reasons I hear that keep teams from achieving maximum performance:

1. Backstabbing. If you are the team leader and backstabbing is an issue, suggest that the team come up with a rule. Example: if there is any backstabbing among team members and they can’t resolve it on their own, it goes before the team leader.

2. Interrupting. This is a common challenge in meetings. Have the team come up with a rule such as, No one is allowed to speak until the other person finishes and you raise your hand. Remember, it starts with the team leader.

3. Tangents. A team is going off on tangents in meetings. If you are the team leader, tactfully ask the rest of the group if they want to hear any more about the issue being discussed. If not, let that person know they can talk with you privately after the meeting. Remember tact and diplomacy.

4. Whining. Have an unwritten rule that team members must come up with a solution whenever they complain. One team actually held up cue cards with a sad face whenever someone whined excessively. It added humor to the meetings but got the point across.

5. Not sharing job knowledge, communication. This is so important it should be in every employee’s job description. Sharing of job knowledge, skills and ideas is central to a team’s success. No matter how many team building exercises you engage in, your team won’t be productive without this simple rule.

6. Tardiness. Is there an employee who is consistently late? What is the impact on the morale of the team? Have a personal standard in writing for what is considered late. This helps, too, with accountability.

7. Too many breaks (or too long). Put the number of breaks allowed, along with time frame, in job descriptions. An alternative is to have the team come up with how many breaks a team member can have in one day. Include the number of minutes. Be specific.

8. Disorganization of shared workspace. 2 common problems: 1) Shared workspace is so small it affects productivity. 2) If messy Oscar and clean Felix are sharing workspace, have them define the rules on what’s considered neat and organized. Have them ask themselves, Is this problem affecting productivity? I love it when I go into a company’s break room and above the sink it reads, Please clean up after yourself. Your mother doesn’t work here!

9. Excessive personal use of the internet or telephone. In my seminars around the world, I frequently hear complaints from people receiving too many joke emails. Another common challenge is someone in the office talking loudly while on a personal call. Have the team define the rules. While everyone likes to socialize, what is considered to be adversely affecting the performance of the team?

10. Leaking confidential information. What is considered confidential? Be specific and put it in writing. Hold everyone accountable.

Effective communication is the key to the success of any team. Gather your team together for a team building meeting. Have everyone list and discuss any potentially unacceptable team behaviors. Are there any issues or activities adversely affecting the team? What issues could impact the team in the future?

Write everything down. Print it out and give everyone a copy. There will be more buy in because they were involved in the solutions. Hold everyone accountable. Without accountability there’s no incentive to change behavior. And your team members want to see you as a team leader who takes action.

Lastly, how are you performing as a role model? In thinking about how to be an effective team leader, remember your people are going to watch what you say, and more importantly, what you do.

“What we prepare for is what we shall get.” William Graham Sumner

Your New Website is Inside

Todays Internet is a lot different than it used to be. With new developments such as SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and web standards, building websites the same old way just wont cut it anymore. The W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) creates guidelines and regulations that designers strive to follow to make their sites as accessible and functional as possible. Compliance with W3C standards ensures that your site achieves its full potential across a range of systems. However, the W3C regulations continue to change everyday. Do these new rules and regulations on the Internet mean that your website has to suffer aesthetically? The answer is NO. With CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), web designers have the ability to do anything on the web, from browser compatibility to full control of all the aesthetics of any web page. CSS also gives a more solid foundation for SEO, usability, and compliance with web standards.

From a development aspect of web design, the first great advantage of CSS is cross browser compatibility. Every web designer has sat down at a foreign computer and opened one of their websites only to find that the layout is mangled. Everything is either in a different spot or not present at all. This happens because different Internet browsers, and even different versions of the same Internet browser, display websites slightly differently. Web designers are forced to test their builds on as many browsers as possible to minimize this problem. However, users constantly upgrade their computers and download new features to enhance their experience on the Internet. As a developer, you can never control all the variables, but you can eliminate the majority of the problems by using CSS an extreme advantage when one considers that everything on the Internet is about usability. If the user is at ease and comfortable then they are more likely to return to your site, purchase your product, recommend your service to others, etc. If they get confused because the navigation moves or doesnt function properly, they are more likely to move on to another site.

Web designers know that the power of CSS gives them many options, but a great deal of designers do not use CSS to its full capabilities. By learning about this language, you can develop it to do more. The cascading part of CSS is the most important feature and yet it is still the most over-looked. CSS makes it possible for the designer to alter one file and, in doing so; make modifications to the entire site. For example, rather than adjusting every font tag individually, this programming technique allows the designer to alter every font in the entire site by changing a single tag in the CSS file. CSS also creates code that is cleaner and less bulky than other scripting languages. Less code means that the search engine bots will have enhanced access to the content on your website. In turn, your website will be indexed more effectively, matching your site with appropriate inquiries from users looking for your services. Older development techniques like frames and tables limit the search engines ability to crawl your website, so the bot will leave without registering the content. This significantly limits the search engines ability to view and catalogue all of your information, and ultimately limits your presence online.

Increased ease and efficiency is another great benefit of CSS. Once you have obtained a decent knowledge of the programming technique, however, it is very easy to let the styles of the CSS control the way you design. CSS functions much like building blocks. At the bottom levels, building is very easy to accomplish, but the larger you go the more advanced and detailed the work becomes. I see many websites that boast about the designers ability to utilize CSS, but the site is rather plain and boring. I am a big fan of minimalism but not when it results from a lack of creativity. Which brings me to the question, has the ease of CSS made designers lazy? For some, the answer is yes, but others use the many advantages of CSS to connect creative design with utility and performance. As a full-time designer, I devote all of my energy to creating graphic-focused, visually stimulating websites with CSS as the structure everything is built on.

A website doesnt have to be simple or boring to work properly. CSS does not limit the design graphically but instead gives the designer the power to create an aesthetically pleasing and fully functional website. If you took two identical designs and built one with tables and one table-less (CSS), the CSS site would have a higher usability across more platforms, it would rank better with the search engines, and the overall performance of the website would be better. Graphically intense CSS layouts do take more time to think through and build out, but that is why I make custom websites. In the ever-changing online world, CSS-based sites are the most up-to-date and effective way to build W3C compliant websites that push the limits of design and function.

High-Level and Demanding Sports Detrimental To Youth

The not-so-good performance by the British contingent at the Wimbledon championships may be linked to a recent study made by researchers from the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital which suggested that high-level tennis can be detrimental to the spine of young people. The team scanned the spines of 33 elite adolescent tennis players, male and female, who trained at the National Tennis Centre, the club where you can find Britain’s most promising young tennis players. Though none of the youths have reported back pain, their backs, however, told a different story.

Fears and Phobias

What are you afraid of? Im sure that like almost everybody else you are afraid of something.

Charles F. Haanel defines fear as a powerful form of thought. I think it is a very good definition, because mostly fear is in our minds. Phobia is abnormal fear. We are often afraid of things which we have no reason to be afraid of. This is because most of the fears and phobias are only the creations of our minds.

For example some people are afraid of flying. Why? Probably because they have heard about some plane crashes and that all of the people died in those accidents. Of course plane accidents do happen, and usually all of the people who are in such accidents die. But the same people who are afraid of flying are usually not afraid of traveling in cars and on buses. Cars accidents cause many more deaths than airplane accidents. The probability of dieing in the car accident is much higher than in plane accident. Flying is the safest way of traveling. So, why people are afraid of flying? Like with most phobias the reason is that they do not control their minds.

When we listen about different tragedies and unhappy news, a subconscious mind accepts everything which comes from a conscious mind. The subconscious mind is a creator, it makes things happen, but it does not have the power to differentiate between what is good and bad for us. The conscious mind has the power to differentiate, but most of the people often do not use this power.

So, when you listen to news or a story your conscious mind accepts the news and makes a fearful picture of the situation. Maybe even you or your loved ones are in this picture. If the feeling of fear is there and it gets to your subconscious mind, it gets deeply rooted in your sub consciousness and it will be very difficult to get rid of that fear.

Of course there are some techniques to get rid of different fears and phobias. But first you should be careful to not allow any fears or phobias to get to your subconscious mind. Avoid dwelling on any pessimistic and negative feelings. Try to cultivate positive feelings. Be optimistic. Even if you are not happy at the moment, thinking about your unhappiness will not make you feel better. It will make you feel worse.

Think about something that would make you happy, about something you want very much. Close your eyes. Try to visualize yourself in a happy situation, in your perfect environment. Think of the reasons why you want what you want. See yourself as already possessing what you want. Try to really feel it. Let the feeling excites you. Hold on that feeling.

If you do that you cannot feel unhappy. It might be difficult at first, but if you practice often it will become easy and natural for you. You will not only feel better but you will start attracting the things you really want. And by concentrating on positive feelings and by being charged with positive energy you will become immune to any fears and phobias. You will start manifesting the life you want. Now you are what you thought mostly about in the past. Do not allow your negative thoughts to create the unhappy future for you.

The Science Behind The Torment

There is a rarely mentioned, supposedly nearly-extinct sect of Buddhism that believes in the words perfection through pain. The philosophy is not one most people would be keen to adapt, but it does take into account something that most people don’t want to acknowledge. Pain is a part of life and it is not going to go away until life goes away. Most people, of course, are capable of enduring pain. The natural pain threshold and pain tolerance of people may differ from person to person, but old lore has always said that men had a lower tolerance for suffering and torment than women did. Most of these same stories point to childbirth as the primary evidence for this age-old hypothesis, though recent discoveries are starting to reveal that the opposite is true.

June 25th Is Child Safety Seat Inspection And Installation Fair In Indiana

A child safety seat inspection and installation fair would be held this coming Sunday, June 25th. This event would all be part of the campaign towards the reduction of fatalities among children. Three groups have joined forces so as to make this event a reality. These groups comprise of the State of Indiana, the 21st Century Insurance, and the Governors Council on Impaired and Dangerous Driving. The latter is actually a division of the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute. This big event would be held at the Wal-Mart located in Fort Wayne and it would start at 11 in the morning and end at one in the afternoon.

If you travel to the state of Indiana, you would know that there is a strict rule for child safety seats. Under various programs promoting such, children who are actually eight years old and below should still be restrained in a child safety seat or booster seat. On the other hand, if you do have children who are aged 16 and below, they still must be properly restrained, not in booster seats, but in a child restraint system or seatbelt. It does not matter where the child is seating. What is important is that they are properly restrained in their seats.

This kind of event is indeed very beneficial for the driving public, especially to those drivers who have children as their passengers. Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show that vehicular crashes are actually the leading cause of death of children who are two years old. Vehicular crashes are also the leading cause of death among people aged four years old to 34 years old. Moreover, upon investigation, more than 80 percent of the child safety seats in such accidents have been found out to be improperly installed.

During the child safety seat inspection and installation fair this Sunday, safety technicians would be part of the event. They would be inspecting and checking the child safety seats of those who will be attending. If necessary, they would also replace and put in new ones. The 21st Century Insurance has donated new child safety seats for the benefit of the said event.

Financial Incentives for Your Business to Use Solar Power

When it comes to running a business, much of the necessary focus is on the bottom line. Many businesses, however, fail to realize they can seriously cut energy costs.by going solar.

Tax Incentives

Federal and State governments know the best way to initiate change is to provide an economic benefit. When it comes to energy, governments try to make the use of solar energy as economically attractive as possible to businesses. This is done through granting tax incentives in the form of tax credits and deductions. Depending upon which government agency is involved, federal or a particular state, corporations can get tax credits and deductions ranging from 10 to as high as 35 percent of the cost of purchasing and installing solar energy systems.

Net Metering

On top of the tax incentives given to businesses for going solar, a majority of states now offer incredible cost savings through net metering. Net metering refers to state laws that require utilities to purchase power generated from solar systems used by businesses at the same price the utilities would otherwise charge the business. If the business is producing energy in excess of what it is using, the energy is sent into the utility grid and the building power meter actually runs backwards. Since many businesses are closed two days a week, this effectively means the utility is buying the power on said days. Net metering is an incredibly effective means of slashing utility costs.

Solar Loans

Businesses can gain further benefits through going solar by taking advantage of government solar financing programs. These loan programs offer incredible terms in an effort to promote the use of renewable energy and make sense for both new construction and renovations. Typically created as state programs, these solar loans offer financing for the purchase and installation of the equipment. The loans typically have seven to 10 year terms, and are offered as no interest or extremely low interest financing. Combined with the economic benefits of net metering, such loans make the decision to go solar a slam dunk.

Each state tends to handle the promotion of alternative energy in different ways and with different benefits. When combined with federal programs, businesses can reap a financial benefit from using solar energy sources.

Working Capital & Cash Flow Solutions: Should I Borrow From A Bank?

Recently, my newspaper reported that a local bank …earned a four star excellence rating for the sixty-fourth consecutive quarter. Thats sixteen years of four star excellence! The article went on to say that the rating is based on a complex formula that includes capital safety levels, quality of loan portfolio, and the ability to meet obligations The press release was designed to showcase the value of this bank and demonstrate its prominent position in the economy.

As a former banker with over seventeen years of commercial experience, I chuckle at this information being tossed around by the bank and its regulatory agencies for self promotion and marketing purposes. I suppose that if you are a blue-hair whose purpose is to find somewhere other than under the mattress to keep your retirement funds, this article was good news. But what does it mean to the business owner or entrepreneur looking for a Funding partner to participate in an opportunity to grow, increase jobs and profit? In a nutshell this type of information should be a wake up call to find another bank-heres why.

Lets explore the underlying meaning to business customers behind a portion of this complex formula.

Capital Safety Level

In laymans terms this means that the bank has more than adequate reserves of Cash. Cash that is available, but not loaned out its Capital Safe. Banks that have high reserves of Capital can be presumed to be low on the scale of aggressive lending. They hoard Cash – even though they cannot make the same return on reserved Cash as they can on employed Cash. But for the bank, its less risky to hoard Cash than to loan Cash, and therefore contributes to their four-star excellence rating.

Quality of Loan Portfolio

A high quality loan portfolio means that the banks loan loss experience is at or above levels set by regulatory agencies. One can infer that the bank therefore takes fewer risks. Bankers are not supposed to be entrepreneurial or take risk. A banker has never been rewarded for taking risk! The banking system rewards those who can decline any borrowing request outside of the underwriting parameters. Loan portfolio quality thats high = low loan accessibility to business owners. It stands to reason that banks are not risk takers based upon the low returns they are willing to accept.

Banks with four star excellence ratings seek out commercial customers who are stable and have limited need to borrow. The other 72% of business customers are left outside the circle of these banks. Where do these businesses turn to Cash Flow the Working Capital needs of their business? Where do they go to fund opportunities for growth and development of new market niches? More often than not they turn to the widely accepted world of non-traditional funding sources – preferred SBA lending companies for real estate and fixed asset needs, leasing companies for equipment needs, and Factoring companies for Working Capital needs. These non-traditional funding sources evaluate opportunities to participate by lending funds to small & medium sized businesses. Non-traditional lenders rates on borrowed funds may be higher than traditional bank rates, but their mission is to employ funds to obtain a return, not to let cash sit idle on the sideline in order to obtain a four star excellence rating. Their pricing reflects the perceived risk. And, they are not restricted by regulatory bureaucracy or fear of losing their four star rating as banks are.

In this ever changing world, business owners are advised to explore opportunities outside of the traditional financing channels. Before a need arises a business should be familiar with alternative funding sources. And perhaps, when your bank informs you that they continue to achieve a four-star excellence ratingit would be wise to investigate your options pertaining to Working Capital and Cash Flow solutions.

Keep Your Pumper Pumping

Clots cause 80% of all Heart Attacks and 83% of Strokes. Heart Disease is on the rise in this country as well as in places where the diet has been westernized like Japan and the Mediterranean. More than anything else it is due to lack of proper diet and exercise.

Atherosclerosis is the hardening of the arteries and this is how it happens; flowing through your arteries you have plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets (needed for clotting) as well as some other essential cells for your health. Due to lack of a good diet you also have things like Bad cholesterol (LDL), sugars from uncontrolled diabetes, saturated fats as well as other bad things for your health; all these negative ingredients begin to collect, stick together and build up on the interior of the artery walls; this is called plaque. The outer layer of the plaque that faces into the artery gets hard hence hardening of the arteries, the substances on the inside stays soft. The outer hard layer of the plague will eventually crack and the soft interior will be exposed. At this point the platelets (for clotting) do exactly what they are designed for; come to the crack to protect it, thinking it’s an injury to the arterial wall, and form a clot; this creates even more blockage in the already narrowed artery.

Several things can begin to happen at this point, you may have various forms of chest discomfort, numbness, burning or even a dull ache. You may develop poor leg circulation, abnormally cold hands and feet, shortness of breath, high blood pressure, fluttering of the heart (palpitations), nausea, weakness or dizziness and even impotence in men. Hardening of the arteries creates a blood flow restriction. When this becomes more serious the clots can completely stop the flow of oxygen rich blood resulting in Heart Attack, Stroke and Death. It is important to reduce the risk of clot formation, but what is even more essential is to stop the production of plaque build-up in your arteries. If you make a cake it takes various minor ingredients and one major ingredient; flour, without flour you do not have a cake. When plaque is created in your arteries, it also takes one major ingredient; Bad Cholesterol (LDL). If you can stop LDL, plaque would not be formed. This is how bad LDL is created; Free-radicals are molecules or atoms that are missing an electron, they attack all kinds of cells in the body trying to steal an electron from them, free-radicals are the cause of all major disease; in the case of heart disease, free-radicals attack normal LDL cholesterol causing deformity or mutation, this makes the LDL cholesterol sticky. Now all the negative ingredients come together and you have plaque stuck to the walls of your arteries.

Free-radicals can not be avoided; they are in air and water pollution, junk foods we eat, and in medications we take; in medications these free-radicals are called side effects. Side effects can lead to disaster inside your body and in some cases death.

The only thing that stops free-radicals are antioxidants; they are molecules that have a spare electron. The only place to find antioxidants is in natural sources. Dietary supplements are needed for optimum health and contain antioxidants, eating natural foods that are un-processed is critical. Processing our food destroys the antioxidants. Most plants have around 1,000 to 1,500 antioxidants each, which does not seem like a lot compared to the amount of free-radicals you are taking into your body every single day; about a billion. Vitamins and minerals also contain antioxidants.

With the discovery of a fruit from South East Asia called the Mangosteen, scientists have been in a buzz about the amount of antioxidants this fruit contains. The Mangosteen fruit has an amazing 25,000 antioxidants. This fruit has been studied in Universities and by scientists for the last 20 years; they have proved that this fruit has the most powerful and the largest number of antioxidants in nature to date. You can read all the studies by going to (pubmed at dot gov) and typing in Mangosteen. The Mangosteen fruit has been providing thousands of people with medicinal benefits, due to super charged antioxidants called Xanthones. Two hundred Xanthones have been identified in nature, 41 are in the Mangosteen fruit alone and you can compare that to the Aloe Vera plant that contains only one Xanthone. One thing about Xanthones you need to know is that they must be consumed in their natural form. Xanthones can destroy more than one free-radical at a time, unlike normal antioxidants, due to carbon bonds that produce biological actions in the body. Xanthones are stable, super charged anti-oxidants. For more information you can call toll free 1-888-374-4148 and listen to a message about the Mangosteen fruit and its powerful medicinal abilities.

ADD As An Adult – What’s It Like?

Attention Deficit Disorder is often difficult to diagnose in adulthood as it sometimes masked by relationship problems, mood disorders, substance abuse, employment issues, or other psychological disorders. It was previously believed that children and adolescents would grow out of ADD, but it has just been acknowledged in the last few decades that it persists into adulthood. Actually, 67% of children with ADD will continue to exhibit signs well into adulthood. ADD is very difficult to diagnose in adults and sometimes only occurs after a child of the adult is diagnosed and the genetic link is made.

How is Attention Deficit Disorder exhibited in adults? Actually, in much the same ways as in children. Adults with ADD often have difficulty in completing assignments, fail to pay close attention to details, fidget, are inattentive, are unorganized, and talk excessively. Unfortunately, adult ADD is often commingled with lack of self-control, poor memory, anxiety, depression, mood swings, employment issues, chronic lateness, and difficulties regulating motivation, emotions and arousal. Like their child counterparts, these behaviors cause an inability to function in every day activities, which can especially cause a problem in employment situations.

Adults that have grown up being undiagnosed as having ADD often suffer from low self-esteem and feel like they are stupid, lazy, or even crazy. Diagnosing them as adults may lay to rest lifelong perception issues they may have had with themselves and may allow them to improve on self-esteem, as well as work skills and performance. It is believed that these reasons could actually be the basis for the depression and other psychological issues they have as adults.

Treatment for adults often includes medication, education, behavior skill building to better cope with their disorder, and counselling. Stimulant medication, as with children, may be the first stage in treatment. However, this is not a cure and should be coupled with behavior modification to reach full potential. Counseling may very well be an important aspect of treatment, as ongoing psychologically issues have been present. Likewise, just being diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder may cause reason to seek counseling in order to come to terms with the diagnosis.

The important thing for an adult to remember when they have been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder is that there is help available and treatment is easily attainable. They should find comfort in understanding the root of their behavior and actions and knowing help is available.

What To Look For In A Backpack

Do you know what to look for in a backpack? Now that your child has to carry a heavy load of books and other supplies back and forth from school, you need to think about buying her a back friendly pack. She of course wants a backpack in cool colors and you want her to have an ergonomically sound backpack that will last her for years.

This time you need to stand your ground. Let her choose a color from among the choices the company offers but she must have a back friendly pack. Pediatricians and parents are reporting an alarming increase in complaints of back, shoulder and neck pain, sometimes accompanied by reports of numbness and tingling in the hands and arms, which cannot be attributed to any injury or disease, other than too heavy or improperly worn backpacks.

The backpacks we see on most kids are not back friendly. The shoulder straps are narrow and not padded, which can put pressure on the nerves in the back, which can cause the tingling problems mentioned. There is no padding allowing the pack to bounce against the back as the child walks, also there is no anchoring system which also contributes to the bouncing which can cause repetitive impact injury to the back.

When you are shopping for your daughters back pack, look first for wide padded straps and a padded back in the bag itself, at the very least, it should have a waist belt which stabilizes the load and prevents it from shifting or bouncing. There are backpacks that offer additional protection, such as chest belts and side straps. The chest and waist belts put the weight bearing on the two strongest muscle systems in the body, the abdominal and back muscles.

Also look at the warranty. Some of the best backpack retailers offer lifetime warrantees. So ten years from now if a zipper breaks you can send it to the company for repair or replacement. No questions asked. One manufacture is using mini frames in the backpacks to help stabilize the load and reduce pressure on the users back. Obviously these packs cost more than the standard backpacks you get in a department store. And yes the extra features are well worth the increased cost, when you put it up against, the risk of possible damage to your childs back and the cost of buying a new backpack every year.

There is more than one company that offers back friendly packs and have the repair or replace warranty, and all of the safety features, so shop around until you find the backpack you and your child can live with. Do a web search for back friendly backpacks, safe backpacks or ergonomic back packs and you will get dozens of sites to buy your backpack from, and links to articles bout back friendly back packs. Also look search for wholesale backpacks, you can save mega bucks buying from a wholesaler.

Just remember that not all wholesalers will sell a single unit, especially to a non-retailer. Now that you know what to look for in a backpack, all that remains is to decide how much you want to spend and what level of protection you can afford.
