What does NASCAR stand for?

To the non-fan, NASCAR stands for “Non Athletic Sport Centered Around Rednecks”….it’s real meaning is “National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing”. To corporate America it stands for “Big Business”

NASCAR and their premier division “Nextel Cup” is the second most watched sport in America, only the NFL tops it for attendance and television audiences. On any given weekend during the season, more race fans pack race tracks to capacity, than any major sporting event… All-star Game, Superbowl, or PGA Golf Tournament. The website ‘NASCAR.com’ gets over ONE BILLION hits a year

The Nextel Cup features 26 weekly races, plus a 10 race playoff type schedule. It’s the only sport that has what’s called “It’s Superbowl” as the first race of the season. The Daytona 500 is viewed by over 30 million, over 180 thousand pack the grandstands and infield each year for that event.

This sport that many assume their fans to be white, male, and southern. Well, that assumption is just plain wrong. NASCAR’s fan base is made up by 40% woman, in fact, NASCAR has more women watching, than the NFL or Major League Baseball. The minority fan base increases each week, making up about 10% at this point. The average income of a NASCAR Nextel Cup fan is 83,000 a year.

You see corporate sponsor names everywhere, on the cars, uniforms, tracks, and merchandise. NASCAR fans are the most “Brand Loyal” in the world. These sponsor names cash in on that loyalty…Dale Earnhardt Jr. fans drink Budweiser, you won’t find a lot of Tony Stewart fans setting one foot inside a LOWE’s, because Tony is sponsored by “Home Depot”, Jeff Gordon fans paint with nothing but Dupont paint, etc. It cost 10 to 20 million per year for the top teams to be competitive and Corporate America is more than happy to cough up that kind of cash for what they get in return. It costs sponsor’s around a million and a half dollars a season just to have their company name on the trunk lid of a top Nextel Cup car.

The drivers are the stars and they offer everything from: good looking, ugly, fat, tall, thin, smart, dumb, intelligent, stupid, macho, wimpy, young and old. You can’t find another sport that offers the drama week in and week out that a NASCAR Nextel Cup race offers.

This is only a brief overview of America’s second most watched sport, there is a lot more to uncover in future articles related to NASCAR, but you can not deny, that NASCAR is the best
reality show there is.

The Most Incredible Residual Income Ever

Residual income is the holy grail of income streams. You stop working, but you keep getting paid. Sweet!

But the truth is, most people turn away from the more common vehicles for residual income. For example, MLM (Multi-Level Marketing) is a very common vehicle today that CLAIMS you can earn a residual income. The fact is, the claims are true, you CAN get paid a residual income. But you might not, in fact you will probably never earn anything in MLM, that’s just the numbers. If you listen to all the hype out there, you would think all you had to do was sign up and you could be rich! Don’t we all wish that were true!

What about investments, that’s residual, right? Of course it is. You worked to earn the cash, now make that cash work for you. There is the stock market, forex and commodities markets, and other more riskier investment opportunities. The problem with these types of residual incomes is the knowledge they require to make it work for you, and the sometimes large amount of cash required to get started. With investing, the potential for gain is high, but for anything other than the most conservative investments, the potential for loss is equally as high. Be very careful if you decide to invest, talk to experts!

So what is left? There are other less familiar residual income streams, you might even be thinking of one as you read this, but I have learned about one in particular that you just MUST hear about right now! It is called Point of Care (POC) Dispensing by Physicians. Let me tell you, this is so incredibly hot right now, I can’t believe it is even legal!

So, you’ve never heard of POC Dispensing by Physicians? Don’t worry, a lot of Physicians have never heard about this either. And honestly, I am amazed by this fact. Anyway, back to what this is, POC Dispensing. Actually, it is very simple, rather than a Doctor writing a prescription to give to a patient who then takes that prescription to a pharmacy, the Doctor simply dispenses that very same medicine to their patient right there in the Doctor’s office. Rather than the patient paying the Pharmacy for those medicines, they pay the Physician’s office roughly the same price, sometimes even a little less.

This sounds a little boring, so what, the patient gets their medicine from the Physician’s office now, big deal, right? WRONG! Now the Doctor makes the profit on that medicine rather than the Pharmacy down the street, and this profit can be significant, between $20,000 to $40,000 a year for the average Physician.

So what does this have to do with residual income streams? Until now, nothing at all. You see, there are many repackagers of medicines that sell this opportunity to Physicians. But they traditionally do so with a salaried sales force. They employ you, pay you for your time, and that is it, just another job, really. But that is all changing now. For the first time, repackagers of medicines are beginning to allow ISO’s (Independent Sales Organizations) to work with them in hiring a sub-contractor sales force. This is where this gets incredible!

As a sub contractor with an ISO offering this opportunity to Physicians, you get paid every month for as long as that Physician remains a customer. There are going to be MANY sub contractors earning into the six figures this year with this. Let me run through some numbers for you to help you understand:

1. There are about 400,000 Physicians in the target market.
2. Only about 7%, or 28,000 currently dispense.
3. 50,000 to 90,000 MORE Docs will dispense in the next 3 to 5 years.
4. Find 100 of them, and your income could reach $100,000 a year!

Can you find 100 out of 50 to 90 thousand!

Of course you can! This is why Physician Dispensing is so fantastic for anyone looking for an incredible residual income stream. Physician Dispensing will become known as the most incredible residual income of this decade.

Trials Of An Internet Entrepreneur A Humorous Beginning

Its hard to believe that it all began almost a year ago. Time really does fly when you are consumed by the task at hand or even worse, constantly perplexed. My wife and I thought it might be fun to start an Internet store as a side business to my Professional Engineering and Contracting business. After all, Im somewhat computer literate. How hard or demanding could it possibly be? I figured there must be a cookbook solution somewhere that would define the exact steps that if taken, would catapult us to stardom.

Little did I realize that life on the Internet is quite a bit different than the world of absolute truths that I exist in as an Engineer. Everyone is presented as an expert but few people seem to agree on any given topic. How can perceived reality differ so greatly?

The truth of the matter is, that Internet Reality is defined by the search engines and the algorithms they use to present it, and I doubt very seriously that the folks that really understand it will divulge their secrets anytime in the near future. Therefore any understanding of the reality presented, can only be reactive in nature and speculative at best. I made numerous mistakes in setting up our first store before this concept really sunk in. Without realizing it, I was trying to use an approach which may have been functional, but
did not work well with the search engines and therefore would have always limited our success. I finally came to the conclusion, When in Rome, do as the Romans do.

My mistakes began at the very beginning, when I purchased a third party PHP shopping cart and loaded it on to a reputable hosting company. Based on everything I was told, this should be a Walk in the Park and we should be selling product any day. I was soon to find out that I required a working knowledge of PHP to modify the shopping cart and even worse, my page
requests timed out as often as 60% of the time. Now in all fairness to the software industry, Im sure there are many quality solutions being offered today. The problem is, which do you buy?

In utter disgust, I turned to a suggestion seen at WorldWide Brands and chose to open up a Yahoo Store. I also purchased the first edition of Online Store Profits and followed it step by step as I created our store and was quickly up and running. From there I purchased Arelis for our link management software and IBP 8 for our site optimization and marketing. Lastly I purchased IDevAffiliate for our affiliate tracking and management needs. Im sure there are many other effective options that can be chosen, but these are the ones that have worked well for us. Our search engine visibility and subsequent sales continue to improve, and in general Life Is Good and we are pleased with our selections.

I share this information with the readers because its healthy to admit your own mistakes, especially if it can prevent others from making similar errors. Never use someone elses opinion, as a replacement for your own that should have been derived by factual research.

Until my next update, have a great day!

Types Of Hiking Boots And Hiking Shoes

There are many types of hiking boots and hiking shoes, and the choice can be bewildering. While there are some kinds of hiking footwear that will not fit neatly into any category, I will discuss hiking footwear in terms of four categories, based on the general kind of hiking for which they work best.

1. Hiking shoes and sandals. For short walks in the outdoors, for knocking around in camp, and for easy interludes in an otherwise serious hike.

2. Day-hiking boots. For moderate hiking, such as day hikes or short hikes in rough country.

3. Backpacking boots. For multi-day backpacking trips.

4. Mountaineering boots. For the most serious hiking, mountain climbing, and ice climbing.

As you move up the scale of categories, you also move up in price. That means you have to give more serious thought and do more careful shopping the higher up the scale you look. But before you begin your serious shopping, get a handle on what types of hiking boots are available so you will be sure you are looking for the right kind.

Don’t be scared off by the prices, and don’t make the mistake of assuming that you don’t need special-purpose hiking boots. You probably don’t need $200 mountaineering boots, but that doesn’t mean you should try a twelve-mile day hike in your tennis shoes, either. In this article, you will learn how to decide which general type of hiking boots are right for what you want to do. Then you’ll be prepared to look deeper into exactly what you need.

Hiking Shoes and Sandals

Hiking shoes can be multi-purpose footwear. If you are new to hiking, and planning only short hikes on well-maintained trails, you might already have suitable footwear. Cross trainers or any reasonably sturdy sneaker may be suitable for light hiking.

Shoes expressly designed for trail running and light hiking typically rise a little higher than conventional sneakers, and they usually have a “scree collar” (a collar of padding around the ankle to keep pebbles out). They are usually not waterproof, though they may be somewhat “water resistant,” and the tread is not very aggressive.

Hiking shoes are suitable for short hikes on reasonably dry, reasonably smooth trails where you will not be carrying much weight. If you will be crossing streams, climbing steep slopes, walking on snow and ice, or carrying more than about twenty pounds of gear, you should probably look into day-hiking boots or backpacking boots.

Hiking sandals are a special class of hiking footwear. When you consider the four main purposes of hiking shoes – warmth, protection, traction, and keeping dry – sandals might seem like a joke. But think again.

Obviously, you’re not hiking in winter in hiking sandals, so keeping your feet warm is just not a consideration that hiking sandals address. Sandals do protect the soles of your feet from rough surfaces and sharp objects, but they can’t protect the sides of your feet from rocks and brush. They also provide good traction.

But what about keeping your feet dry? Don’t laugh! No, sandals will not keep the water out as you wade across a stream, but neither will they keep the water in when you step out of the stream. Many hikers carry sandals in their backpacks and switch to them whenever they cross a stream that they know is going to overtop their hiking boots.

If all you are going to do is short hikes on relatively clear, level trails in warm weather, sandals are worth at least a little consideration. More importantly, if you want a pair of hiking shoes to switch out in the middle of a long, serious hike, hiking sandals may well be worth the space they take up in your backpack.

Day-Hiking Boots

Day-hiking boots are purpose-designed for hiking. If you are planning to do any moderate hiking, such as all-day hikes or short hikes on rugged trails, you will need to give some serious thought to your footwear.

Day-hiking boots typically rise just above the ankle, and they always have a padded “scree collar.” They usually have a fairly stiff fiberglass shank to reinforce the sole and arch supports. The tongue is partially attached, sometimes fully attached, to provide waterproofing.

Day-hiking boots nearly always have hooks for the laces on the upper part of the boot. Some have eyelets all the way to the top, but these are hard to keep properly tightened.

Beware of imitations! The fashion industry has caught on to the style of hiking boots, and you will find many shoes that look like hiking boots, but are better suited to hanging out at Starbucks than to hiking the backwoods. Look closely, and you can tell the real hiking boots from the wannabees:

* Scree collar

* Stiff shank

* Attached or partially attached tongue

* Genuinely aggressive tread

None of these features show when you’re just looking cool, so the imitation hiking boots don’t have them.

Backpacking Boots

Backpacking boots are designed for long wear under fairly harsh conditions. If you are planning to do a lot of hiking, especially multi-day backpacking trips or all-day hikes on rough trails, you will need backpacking boots. And don’t be put off by the prices: A hundred-dollar pair of boots that lasts five years is cheaper than buying a forty-dollar pair every year. And more comfortable, too.

Backpacking boots usually rise well above the ankle. Very high-rise boots, like military-style “combat boots,” may not have a padded “scree collar,” but lower-rise boots will have one. They have a rigid shank, which may be fiberglass or steel, to provide stiffness and arch support. The tongue may be partially attached on high-rise boots, or fully attached on lower boots. Backpacking boots always have a very aggressive tread design.

Many backpacking boots have eyelets for the laces all the way up. This makes the boots harder to put on and take off. It also makes the laces more difficult to adjust than if they had hooks, but the eyelets are less prone to catching on brush or getting bent closed when you bash your leg against a boulder. D-rings, used on the upper parts of some hiking boots, are a good compromise. They are less prone to damage than hooks, but more easily adjustable than eyelets.

There are heavy-duty boots out there that are not suitable for hiking. Work boots can be very similar to hiking boots in every detail except the tread. When choosing backpacking boots, make sure the tread is designed for the trail and not for the workshop.

Mountaineering Boots

Mountaineering boots are specially designed for serious expeditions in primitive and rugged conditions. The term “mountaineering boots” generally also includes such specialized footwear as ice-climbing boots.

I’ll be perfectly honest here (habit of mine): I have no personal experience with mountaineering boots, nor with the conditions that require them. So I don’t have much to tell you about them other than that they exist and that, depending on your requirements, they may be what you need. When you are ready to take a good look at mountaineering boots, I can only advise you to look for suitable advice.

Mountaineering boots are generally completely rigid, made of thick, heavy leather or molded plastic. They are quite heavy, and difficult to walk in under most normal conditions.

Don’t be oversold. If you are looking for backpacking boots, you don’t need special-purpose mountaineering boots. This is one case where buying more hiking boot than you need can actually be a bad thing. Mountaineering boots are what you want for climbing Mount Everest, but not for hiking in the typical National Park.

Conclusion

Now you know now to recognize the four main types of hiking boots. That will help you in your search. Choose the type of boot that is right for the type of hiking you are planning to do, then go do it!

Data And Information Part 1 : E-mail Archiving

The current state of e-mail

Today e-mail is such an integral part of our day to day lives. So much so, that the thought of being without it is inconceivable. This is realised nowhere more so than in the corporate environment. Despite the high development and vast spread of e-mail over previous years, it is still not without its problems. Viruses and SPAM being the main concerns, but a slightly more unlikely issue is that of storage space. Users have turned their mailboxes into electronic filing cabinets whereby everything is stored away into neat folder structures. Why do they do this? The obvious answer being because it is easy. Policing from IT Administrators is an obvious solution to the issue, but with the ever increasing integration between office systems, can we simply set black and white guidelines for how and where the e-mails are stored and for how long?

How can I combat these issues?

Its all too easy for a user to scan read an e-mail using auto-preview, and then just file it away knowing it will be there for when they need to address it properly. The end result of this is a slowing mail server with mailboxes well over the optimum size. IT Administrators are limited by their tools to what they can do to fix these problems. The options that they are presented with are as follows:

1. Get users to manually prune their mailboxes There is no sure fire way to accomplish this on a regular basis and users find it difficult to distinguish a mail that they need to keep from one that they dont

2. Use Auto Archiving Some mail clients, including Microsoft Outlook include an auto archiving feature which stores old e-mails into a local file, thus reducing the size of your live mailbox. This relatively primitive technology again moves the responsibility of e-mail archiving to the end user.

3. Use an enterprise archiving solution such as the Symantec Vault products (formerly VERITAS Enterprise Vault). This solution is by far the most manageable and it removes responsibility from the end user to the IT administration team.

Symantec Vault Products

The Symantec Vault products provide a flexible archiving framework for e-mail, file and web based content. The products enable discovery of content held within these formats, whilst helping to reduce storage costs and simplifying data management. The powerful search and discovery capabilities are complimented by powerful client applications for corporate governance, risk management and legal protection. Some of the key features include:

1. Automatic cradle-to-grave content lifecycle management for e-mail and other corporate data

2. Easy and rapid search and retrieval of content allows end-users to tap into organizational knowledge.

3. Storage optimization reduces message and information stores by 50 percent or more.

4. Ensures compliance with retention and discovery policies by acting as a secure repository for electronic information.

5. Reduces the cost of content retrieval, recovery, and administration.

6. Provides an “information warehouse” for corporate data that can be mined as a knowledge resource using built-in index and search technologies.

7. Seamless integration of archived e-mail with existing mail systems remaining transparent to the end user

What should I do next?

1. Decide what type of e-mail archiving solution is right for your business

2. Understand what you are trying to achieve from investing in an e-mail archiving solution

3. Consider how implementing an e-mail archiving solution will affect your users and what changes will need to be made by them

Internet Business Ideas

These are a few new internet business ideas that I won’t be trying, but I hope that someone will. The first comes from people’s frustration with technologies like e-book formatters. They don’t want to spend hundreds for the software, and even when they do, they have trouble learning to use it.

The solution? A service business that compiles e-books for people. You could even have customers e-mail a photo and story about each family member or friend, and make a photo scrapbook for them. Whatever the purpose of the book, the idea is that the customer can easily download the book when done.

You would also host it on your site for a year or more, with the download link on a page that only the customer knows the address of. They can direct people to the page to give the book away, sell it, or otherwise distribute it to whomever they please. A larger contract might be doing the first high school yearbook in an e-book format (probably already done by the time you read this).

New Internet Search Engine Ideas

You may know that Google and other search engines give preference to sites that are older. It’s a part of their search algorithms, and probably a good idea. It does mean, though, that even the best site in the world on a given topic may be nearly impossible to find. This can also happen because the site has too few incoming links (another part of the algorithms).

A solution is a search engine that gives highest priority to new web sites. It might even drop sites from the results once they are six months old, or perhaps always display those older sites on the bottom half of the page. The top results would always be the most relevant sites that are also the newest. This isn’t meant to be better than existing search engines, but to serve a niche they don’t serve.

Why is this a workable internet business idea? Partly because it would be so different from other search engines would attract attention and usage. Perhaps more importantly, many people would love to check regularly to see what new sites are out there covering “dogs,” “backpacking,” money making,” “baby names,” or whatever. Also, new site owners, waiting to show up in Google, would be regular visitors, searching for their own sites.

Another search engine I would like to see is one just for shopping. Imagine searching for “leather coat,” and instead of getting sites that happen to use the words and others that know how to optimize, you got 80-word descriptions of various leather jackets, always with the price and other important information. If done well, only fishing poles would be in the results when you typed in “I want to buy a fishing pole.”

It could be a paid-inclusion search engine. The user just wants to buy something, without the usual information sites in the results or “Buy leather on Ebay!” advertisements. Results could be randomly presented to start, with the ones getting clicks rising to the top of the results. This would be a democratic placement similar to Google’s ads, but with enough information to make it more meaningful than five to ten-word sales pitches.

Can these new ideas work? Only time will tell, but I hope someone tries. In the meantime, I will continue writing articles like this to bring traffic to my sites. It has been the most profitable of the internet business ideas I have tried.

What to look for from Mortgage Lenders

The money market is always a lucrative opportunity for anybody. Working in the finances can often be a very highly paid job although it has its own risks. To be in the profession of mortgage lending is a time-tested job that has withstood the difficult depression to post war to present day boom. Most European economies and the American economy stand largely on the mortgage industry. The mortgage industry plays an important role in the lending process. A mortgage lender is the one who lends the money to a borrower against the security of a property. Since the mortgage lender is lending a large sum of money to the borrower so that the borrower can buy a property, they generally keep the property as a security in case the borrower fails to repay the loan.

Buying a Second Hand Guitar.

If you are on a budget, but still want to buy a decent guitar, you should look into purchasing a used guitar. For little money you can buy a quality guitar that will be able to suit all of your needs.

Used Fender basses or used Fender Stratocaster guitars can be had for relatively cheap compared with buying a new one. This is the route that a lot of people go when they are looking for their first guitar. The best place to find a used guitar is at a music store that is specialized in selling second hand equipment. If you can’t find a store like this in your area, you may also want to search the internet. There are hundreds of online stores that sell used instruments.

Used, cheap electric guitars are also a top seller. Brands like Ibanez, Squier or Epiphone can be found for very little money. Used Gibson guitars or a second hand Fender Stratocaster will cost you probably more, but will still save you a lot of money. In return you will get a top quality guitar which will last you a very, very long time!

You may also be able to find used guitars at a flea market or garage sale. The best way to go about doing this is find a large flea market in your area, and frequent it as often as possible. You will eventually come across what you are looking for.

Many people have also turned to eBay in order to find a second hand guitar. EBay offers hundreds of guitars that you can bid on. The best thing about using this service is that you can keep an eye on each listing, and only purchase what you can afford.

A used guitar can be a great buy for anybody that is just learning, or anybody who simply wants a new guitar. In most cases you can buy a second hand guitar for half the price it would cost you when buying it brand new. Ok it probably will have some scratches on it, but the quality and the sound of the instrument will still remain the same and that’s what counts!

If you know where to look, and stay persistent you should not have any problems at all finding a guitar that suits your needs. Remember, stay patient until you find the guitar that suits your needs and fits your budget.

Photo mugs

Is the feeling of a soon-come-crashing birthday of your beloved, a close relative or a friend and the following headache about what to choose as a gift familiar to you? There are so many pretty things in store, but most of them seem a bit trivial and when you ask your friends for advice, they all have the same answer, similar to what probably everyone else would suggest, which signals Hey, dont buy it. If you find yourself in a situation like this, and you would like your gift to have a personal touch, think photo mugs.

Why can a photo mug make a nice present? Because the companies that produce photo mugs can place any photo that you like on it. It can be a picture of the person that you are going to give a present to, or your own funny little face, or maybe a sweet picture of you together, or of your child or a pet. Moreover, if you add a pinch of creativity, you can bring in a picture of some object that has a meaning for both of you, something that can remind you of a special or a funny moment in your life.

Secondly, photo mug producers are ready to put in a customized text on the other side of the mug to supplement the picture, which can be funny, romantic or your self-expression can take some other shape.

And thirdly, because it is a mug and a photo in one and it is functional. You can enjoy your drink, a picture and a memory, at least of the moment and the person, who gave it to you.

Furthermore, the gift mugs that are advertised and sold online are in most cases made of ceramics. They are dishwasher and microwave safe, which means the picture will not fade and the text will persist as well after you put the cup in the machine or the oven. However, if you go for a stainless steel travel mug, that can be not dishwasher or microwave safe. The selling companies recommend delicate hand washing, but guarantee that dye-sublimation ink, which is used for printing the picture, is bullet-proof and will never fade.

Besides creating your own design with a personal touch, the mugs are beautiful from the point of view of delivery time. They can be obtained as quickly as in 24 hours. Of course, if you want to order it to arrive on Christmas Day or in time for any other big holiday, you should think about it in advance. Some companies would advise to place orders by December 14.
And then again, there is a discount system that is applicable to the amount of photo mugs purchased. The more you buy, the less you pay per cup. You might like to acquire a round of mugs to present it to all the members of your family with different photos and different words to accompany. That will surely liven up and stimulate the party.

Talo restaurant is something special

I could barely get any work done the hour after I returned from lunch at Talo Mexican Grill in Irvine (in the heart of California’s Orange County) — and that tells all you need to know.

People kept interrupting me, seeking wisdom about this good food they were hearing about.

In that hour, my lunch companion Brenda couldn’t stop telling folks about the fresh ingredients, the beautiful room, the smart service — and our simple, sumptuous dessert.

She just couldn’t remember the restaurant name.

Thus the traffic to my desk.

“What’s the name of that place you went for lunch?” Rebecca asked. “Can you give me the address?”

“Hey, Andrew, where did you take our boss for lunch?” Neil said. “I’m heading out for a drink after work and it sounds perfect.”

Perfect is a hard label to live up to, but our lunch was certainly grand, and the best of three good meals I’ve shared at Talo since October.

In the course of two dinners and that lunch, friends and I tasted our way through entrees and appetizers that regularly snapped with flavor. They came on plates presented with care and beauty.

A cevich appetizer ($10) was peppery, but not overpowering. The chicken in my wife’s mol poblano ($14) was moist, and the mol was a rich, aromatic pleasure. The tacos al carbon ($16) were built with filet mignon. The camarones al mojo ($18) lolled in a buttery, roasted garlic sauce that complemented the fresh shrimp’s natural flavor.

The best entree was my chile relleno ($12). Wrapped in a light, tempura-like batter, the Anaheim chile was like none other I’ve had in a relleno: It was firm and crisp, not limp or overcooked. The pork-and-mushroom stuffing was earthy and perfectly complemented the pepper’s soft sharpness. Best of all, no gooey cheese filling, just a small sprinkling atop.

Oh, and the margaritas ($7) were pretty good. (Though my personal favorite, for a variety of reasons, gets mixed at a competitor’s beach-front bar. That’s another story.)

These meals weren’t all perfect, mind you. The filet meat in the tacos was generally buttery, but my wife bit into a gristle roadblock. The dinner ribs ($22) we tried were tasty, but not all that differentiated to my taste from other ribs.

Still, you can see and taste that something special is happening at Talo.

“This is the way we eat in Mexico,” founder Nic Villarreal said. He wanted a place that was upscale, with a well-appointed dining room, the best ingredients, meals that fused heritage recipes with California cuisine, and service that never stopped.

Villarreal opened Talo in July after renovating an abandoned Left at Albuquerque location in the Park Place center, in the shadows of two new 18-story condo towers now taking shape.

He brought along a decade of experience working at Houston’s, including its Gulfstream in Newport Center (where he met his financial backers for Talo). That background shows in the dining room and bar. The high ceiling is decorated with wooden beams that summon rancho-style vigas. The leather chairs and banquettes are stitched with hacienda-style embroidery. Contemporary Mexican art — paintings, sculptures, photography — feed your eyes.

It’s very clubby, yet open and airy in a very accessible, Houston’s sort of way.

Villarreal built a management team with similar experience, and a chef, Jose Acevedo, with whom he shared a trove of family recipes.

They all gathered in Villarreal’s Hermosa Beach kitchen to test the recipes. He kept hearing a certain refrain:

“ `If you do a little more of this, it’ll be better,’ Jose kept saying. And God almighty, there was a huge difference,” Villarreal recalled.

Those touches were on display at lunch. Take the seabass ($15), cooked with a yellow mol — roasted yellow pepper, yellow squash, yellow tomato, with a dash of vanilla. The fish was fine, but the sauce was outstanding.

We kept asking our server about it, and he told us about the ingredients, the six hours it takes to prepare.

Then he surprised us with a smart touch.

“You should taste this,” he said, materializing after our meal with a ramekin full of red mol, roasted deep, with a flavor that started light at the front of my tongue and rolled back, warming and glowing all the way down.

Then we ordered dessert, tres leches ($7). It’s Acevedo’s take on the traditional pan de leche, or sweet-milk cake.

Wow.

White cake infused with condensed milk, cream and topped with hand-whipped cream. Moist, rich, just a hint of sweet riding onto your palate and whisking away the aftertaste of chiles.

I asked Neil if he made it out to Talo for drinks that night.

“We did, and we had food, too,” he said. “It was good. Very good.”

What Is Lateral Thinking?

What exactly is Lateral thinking?? For starters, it’s a word invented by Edward DeBono in 1967. At some point since then it became a part of the English language (it is in the Oxford English Dictionary and most others now). DeBono, on his official web site, says there are several ways to define it.

Lateral thinking is a way of attacking problems from other angles, as opposed to the more traditional linear and logical ways. Debono uses chess as an example of where logic normally suffices, if the pieces are a given. Lateral thinking, however, acknowledges that in real life we mostly just assume the pieces are given, when really we need to change those pieces or look beyond them for the most useful solutions.

Lateral Thinking Puzzles

Enough with the definitions. Here are a few lateral thinking puzzles instead. These will give you a good feel for what the term means, and let you practice this “out of the box” kind of thinking.

Two Coins

Bill is on a raft in the ocean with several other survivors of a shipwreck. The others are too weak, so he or Mike must swim to a nearby island to look for help. It’s almost certainly suicidal, due to the circling sharks, but there is little else to hope for. Mike takes the lose change from his pocket and puts two pennies in a hat. He tells John that one is a 2005 penny, and the other 1975. If Bill picks the newer penny he can stay on the raft, and Mike will risk his life. If John picks the older penny, he must go. Bill has seen that both pennies were actually dated 1975, but he doesn’t want to say anything, because Mike is a big guy. How does he win, and get Mike to go, without exposing him as a fraud in front of the others?

The Speech

A well-known politician wrote a long speech. How did it help his career even before he gave the speech?

The Convent

John came to visit at a convent while the superior mother was out of town. He left before she returned, and was careful to leave nothing behind. The nuns said nothing about his visit, so how did the superior mother figure out that a man had been there?

Switching On Your Lateral Thinking

You are shown three switches outside a closed room. There are three lamps inside the room. You can flip the switches on and off as much as you want while the door remains closed, but then you must enter just once and determine quickly which switch is connected to which lamp. How can you do it?

Solutions To The Lateral Thinking Puzzles

Two Coins: Bill reaches into the hat and takes out either penny. He lets it slip out of his hand and fall into the ocean. Apologizing, he suggests that if the remaining penny in the hat is the 1975 one, he must have drawn the 2005 penny. Mike cannot argue with the logic unless he wants to admit to lying. Since the others won’t tolerate a liar anyhow, he makes the swim.

The Speech: A true story solution: In 1912, President Teddy Roosevelt was shot in the chest. The folded-up manuscript of his speech was in his breast pocket, and slowed the bullet, saving his life, and so helping his career.

The Convent: John left a toilet seat up.

Switching On Your Lateral Thinking: Turn on the first one on for a minute, then turn it off and turn the second on. Enter the room and feel the two bulbs that are off. The warm one was turned on by the first switch, the light that is on is connected to the second, and the other to the third.

The Yankees-Red Sox rivalry qualifies under both of these categories.

A New York-Boston bout is the greatest feud in all of sports. No other match up in professional sports offers as much history, hostility, and competition as when the Yanks and Sox assemble and prepare to battle. Where else can you see a 73-year-old coach thrown to the ground by the opposing teams ace pitcher? The only place to catch such action and intensity is in the Bronx or at Fenway Park. The New York-Boston hatred is unmatched in professional sports and is something baseball needs to survive in an era marked by an asterisk.

During a time in baseball in which many spectators are left feeling bamboozled due to accusations of performance enhancing drug use, the sport needs something to pull itself out of the gutter. The one thing that can revive Americas hallmark pastime is the grudge match between the Evil Empire and the formerly cursed BoSox.

Whether it be George Steinbrenner calling out his own club or the opposing Sox, you can guarantee that whatever the outcome is, it will be historic. Anytime these two teams meet for an American League East war, the fire starts to rekindle in fans eyes.

No other duel in sports has created such abhorrence between two cities as the Yankees and Red Sox have. No other rivalry has been a catalyst for causing two members of the grounds crew to jump into the visiting bullpen to try to take on Jeff Nelson and Karim Garcia as we have seen in the 2003 ALCS at Fenway Park.

The Yankees and Red Sox have an historic, and at the same time, a maniacal, relationship. The bitter vengeance between these two teams is something that needs to be present in order for baseball to survive. Every person in America is sick of hearing about Barry Bonds, BALCO, and every other mind numbing steroid allegation that has been regurgitated over and over again in the past few months. Yankees-Red Sox games are the perfect way for fans to regain appreciation for the sport by recognizing the great history between the two teams.

Even in May, when games do not carry as much weight as they do at the end of the season, New York against Boston is a big deal. Early season match ups between the two teams always pressure players into bringing their A game to the ballpark and allow fans of the respective cities to gain bragging rights.

There are other great rivalries all throughout sports, but none of them contain the gusto and all pale in comparison to the zeal that is brought to the table when Joe Torres squad goes up against Terry Franconas. No other rivalry has as rich a history and deep disdain as the saga that is brought on when Bean-town comes to the Bronx or vice versa, and quite frankly, there never will be another rivalry that is half as great.

Odds on the Yankees to win this weeks series were 5/8 @ http://www.WagerWeb.com

Wedding Photography Secrets: Tips For Taking The Best Wedding Day Photos Possible

Its your weddingone of the most beautiful days in your life. How else can you make the perfect occasion last? Capture the momentous event with great wedding photographs. Read this guide to make sure you choose the right wedding photography service for your big day.

The first thing to do is to give the most opportunities for the photographer when scheduling activities during the wedding day. When planning the time of the wedding ceremony and of the reception, couples should incorporate the time that the photographer requires to capture all of the couples special moments. There should be a gap between the end of the ceremony and beginning of the reception, to allow for more photographs for the bride, groom and wedding entourage, especially if they are in two different locations. The photographers and subjects will have a more relaxed shoot and will enjoy all the parts of the wedding if the events are well spaced out.

Next, think of important factors when selecting a wedding photographer. The photographer should be able to show more than one complete set of wedding photos. Couples should not accept someone who shows only selected prints of their best photographs from different weddings. Ideally, all photographs from 3 to 4 complete wedding sets that are at least satisfactory should be a criterion of a professional wedding photographer.

It is also good to have a photographer that gives a package with unlimited coverage for the whole day. Again, this way, photography will not be rushed.

Next, try to be aware of photography companies or individuals that contract out jobs to a pool of wedding photographers or even freelancers. Salespersons often pose as actual photographers and try to woo customers. Make sure companies deal openly, and ask them to show 3 to 4 complete weddings from each of the photographers they offer you, so you can choose. Make sure the one chosen is the one that will cover your wedding. Otherwise, it is better to find a photographer that personally shoots weddings. A two-person team is an even better package because two points of view of the wedding can be taken.

Some photographers only offer the traditional wedding photography style, or strictly a photojournalistic style. It is best to find a versatile photographer that can do both.

Lastly, couples should take note of some important questions to ask a prospective wedding photographer:

Are colored and black and whites included, or would he charge extra for B/W? Dramatic effects can be made with black and white photographs, so ask if this is a premium.

Are hand and digital coloring or digital color separation included in the package or would he charge extra for these?? Better pictures are developed when the photograph colors are separated first, improved, and then printed.

What kinds of cameras does he use? Does he use medium format equipment and have a back up? Does have a “leaf” shutter or “focal plane”?

What lenses does he use? Does he use only one, or will he change lenses? Make him show you photo effects that he is able to achieve with different lenses and choose the ones which you like to appear with your photographs.

Is he willing to customize a package that is within your budget?

Asking intelligent questions will encourage photographers to deal openly with customers. Remember, its your special day, and you should make sure that the wedding photography is something that will help you and your loved ones relive those wonderful memories.

2006 Minnesota Twins Preview

2005 Overview:

The Minnesota Twins were able to provide fans with a respectable year by fielding essentially the same team it did to end the 2004 season. Minnesota finished the year 83-79 while compiling the 2nd best home record within the AL Central (2nd to only the World Series Champion White Sox) going 45-36 at the Metrodome. The power production from the Twins offense in 2005 was led by 1st baseman Justin Morneau (.239 22 79) and outfielder Jacque Jones (.249 23 73) while outfielders Shannon Stewart (.274 10 56), Torii Hunter (.269 14 56), 3rd baseman Michael Cuddyer (.263 12 42) and Catcher/DH Matthew LeCroy (.260 17 50) all combed to help keep the batting order stable.

Unfortunately, Minnesota wasnt able to find much quality starting pitching in 2005 with Johan Santana (16-7 2.87) and Carlos Silva (9-8 3.44) proving to be their most consistent starters. Pitcher Brad Radke (9-12 4.04) suffered a disappointing summer while starter Joe Mays(6-10 5.60) posted a dismal 1-7 record with a 8.22 ERA after the all star break. Starting pitcher Kyle Lohse (9-13 4.18) also struggled to win games after the all star break, returning only 2 wins against 6 losses to end the season with a disappointing sub-five hundred performance. The bullpen had a few bright spots with Juan Rincon (6-6 2.45) appearing in 75 games, J.C. Romero (4-3 3.47) appearing in 68 and closer Joe Nathan (7-4 2.70) posting 43 saves in 48 save opportunities.

Off Season Moves:

The Twins have had a tough winter. Talks for Alfonso Soriano and several others at the GM meetings went nowhere so Minnesota settled by trading RHPs Travis Bowyer (5.59 ERA in 8 games) and Scott Tyler for second baseman Luis Castillo (.301 4 30). Castillo became available as part of the Marlins dismantling. The Twins also signed Rondell White (.313 12 53) to serve as a designated hitter/right fielder (taking Jacque Jones’ spot) and added Tony Batista (.241 32 110 in 2004 with the Expos), after a full season in Japan, to assume duties at third base.

2006 Analysis:

With the White Sox and Indians making moves to improve their rotation the Twins did little to improve their starting staff. The Twins are hoping that Johan Santana will repeat his 2005 effort and wouldnt mind if he could pick up another 20 win season, like he did in 2004 since every little bit will help. If Lohse can put together a better full season that should help take some of the strain off the rotation as well.

The Twins need to be stronger in the infield and they are hoping the addition of Luis Castillo will help in that department. Rondell White is being expected to add a steady bat in the everyday lineup and it will be interesting to see how Tony Batista performs after missing a full year of major league pitching. Batista was a legitimate long ball threat during his last few years at Baltimore and Montreal so his bat will be a welcome addition. Since the White Sox and Indians are fielding much deeper rotations, it will be very tough for the Twins to compete.

Were You There?

Were you there, when they crucified my Lord? That is the title of a well-loved old hymn. Imagine standing on that hill 2000 years ago witnessing the nailing of Jesus on the cross. Here he is already near death after a heavy crown of thorns had been sunk deeply into his skull. His back is covered with deep, oozing stripes caused by merciless flogging, and his strength had completely waned under the weight of the cross, which he had been forced to drag outside the gate of the city of Jerusalem.

This Jesus they crucified with three nails; one through the middle of each hand, and one through his two feet. They needed to make sure that this guy would not escape! Why? Because he had claimed to be the Son of God. Just one week earlier multitudes thronged around him as he rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, waving palm branches and shouting: Hosanna: Blessed is the king of Israel who comes in the name of the Lord! They had been witness to and/or recipients of the thousands of miracles Jesus had performed in their midst. They knew he was no ordinary man. Although they did not understand the hundreds of prophesies about what the messiah had to go through and why, they knew he was a man of God, and they wanted to crown him king. (John 12)

Here now on the cross: he is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. (Isa. 53: 3) This is no pretty picture. This is the portrayal of one man on whom was placed every sin and every sickness that ever would be committed! Himself took our infirmities and bare our sicknesses (mat.8: 17) and: Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; …but he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we ARE healed. (Isa. 53: 4-5). Yes, this prophetic verse foretold his crucifixion hundreds of years earlier. Yet, there in print it tells you that you ARE healed in the present tense, as if it had already happened!

They then pierced him with a sword to ensure that he was dead, fulfilling the scripture: They shall look on him whom they pierced. (John 19) Many other scriptures were realized that day, including the power of forgiveness, as he spoke over his persecutors: Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. (Luke 23:34) At the moment of his death the heavy veil of the temple was rent in two from the top to the bottom, giving us a symbolic direct access to the God. No more do we need to go through a mediator! (Mat. 27:51-53).

Standing there in your minds eye surveying the cross and looking upon his scarred, unrecognizable face and body, thank Him for your healing, and believe that you have it. Now you can look straight into his glorious face as, subsequent to his descent into hell, he was raised up by the Holy Spirit and is now reigning on high! He spoiled principalities and powers (the devil), he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it and He did it all for you! You can now live a victorious life here and with Him in eternity. He did it once and for all, summing it up with His very last words: It is Finished. (John 19:30)

Laser Hair Removal New Jersey Style

For decades in this country men and women alike have been in search of the best way to remove hair and keep it off. A smooth, hairless body seems to be a trend that is here to stay as people are discovering its benefits and how easy it can really be to maintain such a look. Whether suffering from the excessive hair growth of hirsutism or simply looking to keep unwanted hair off, there are many methods, but none quite as long lasting and easy as laser hair removal New Jersey.

How Laser Hair Removal Works

Laser hair removal can be as specific and targeted as the few stray hairs on the eyebrows. At the same time it can remove hair from large areas such as the back and legs. The specific, targeted beam of light can zoom in on the roots of hair anywhere. This light then deadens the root causing the hair to fall out and not grow back.

Laser hair removal treatments are generally done in hour to 45 minute sessions. Sometimes it takes 3 or more sessions to completely kill the roots of the whole area where hair removal is wanted.

After a laser treatment session, the skin may be a little red or irritated, but this usually goes away within a short time. The process is so non-evasive that you can return back to work. It makes going on your lunch hour or before work a viable option.

The Benefits of Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is permanent as soon as the individual hair root is deadened. This makes the process one of the most desirable hair removal systems for many people who dont ever want the hair to grow back.

Laser hair removal is also able to complete this task over large areas of the skin. Men often want a hairless chest or back and women often remove hair from their legs – - both large areas and often too painstaking for waxing, tweezing, or removing with an epilator.

The laser technology associated with this form of hair removal is safe and effective for unwanted hair anywhere. It can be used to remove female pubic hair in place of bikini waxing, sugaring, or crme hair removers. It works on armpits, eyebrows or individual stray hairs that may form on the face, breasts, and abdomen.

Caring for Skin After Laser Removal

Skin may be slightly red and a little sensitive following the laser removal procedure. This will go away quickly and painlessly.

Laser removal of hair does not affect tanning. You will still get the same quality of suntan as before being exposed to a laser, although you should not tan immediately following the procedure since skin will be highly sensitive to sunlight for a short time after laser treatment.

Apply cosmetics will be save also after a laser treatment. Laser hair removal doesnt usually dry skin, but you may want to choose a cosmetic with a moisturizer just to keep skin radiant and healthy looking.

Invoice Factoring What Is It And What Are The Benefits?

Are you a business owner who wants to increase monthly cash flow, working capitol, and improve your credit rating? Then invoice factoring could be right for you.

Invoice factoring is the process by which businesses sell their invoices to a third party, called a factor. The factor buys the invoices for about 3 to 5 percent less than the invoice is actually worth. If your business produces any type of invoice, then your business can take advantage of invoice factoring.

Once the factor purchases the invoice, then the factor owns it, and collects the debt from your client. As the business owner, you get to decide which invoices to factor, based on your customers credit and payment history with your business.

Factoring your invoices means your cash flow does not suffer while you wait for your customers to pay. The factor buys the customers debt, improving your working capitol and the credit rating of your business.

It works like this: You send an invoice to your customer. Then you inform your invoice factoring company that you have sent the invoice, and in what amount. Usually, that can be done by e-mail, so its quick and easy.

The second step is the factor confirms the invoice with your client. Usually, this is done in such a way that the customer or client does not know that you have sold their invoice to a third party. The factor will identify itself as a billing department or company, rather than an invoice factor, and will simply call or send a letter to confirm the invoice.

Some invoice factoring companies are willing to keep the factoring completely invisible to your customers. And after you develop a history and good relationship with the factor, they will usually stop confirming every single invoice.

Once the factor has confirmed the invoice, they pay your business a percentage of the total amount of the invoice, usually around 70 to 85 percent. This is called the advance rate, and it is one of the primary points to look at when selecting a factoring company. When the factor collects the invoice from your customer, you will get the rest of the money you are owed.

Factoring benefits businesses that have poor credit history, no credit history, or limited hard assets. Factoring also helps businesses when they are just starting out, because it can often take time to build up steady cash flow.

Additionally, invoice factoring allows you to increase working capitol without taking liens against your other collateral, so there is little risk to you.

As a business owner you know how frustrating it is when waiting for your customers to pay. Even if your invoices are not past due at all, it can still take weeks to collect the funds you need to put back into your business immediately. Invoice factoring can help your business grow and reduce your own stress level.
